Hello everyone, first year Ferrari owner and having a blast. Just wanted to say thanks for all the great posts, I've learned alot about my 360 in this short time.

Ok so this started about a month ago and I thought that it may be the 5th gear synchro, but in looking at a parts break down it looks like 5th and 6th gear use the same synchro. If this is true then should I not have problems going into 6th as well????
If I pause a few seconds before shifting into 5th it falls in smoothly and absolutly no problem going into 6th. This happens when up shifting or down shifting.
Or is it possible that there is something else wrong in the transmission causing this???
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Cheers,
    Kink

I had the same problem about a year ago. Adjustment fixed the problem. Its a little tricky to adjust the gear linkage so you need to let somebody do it who knows what they are doing. Trust me on that one !!! Also make sure to have your gearbox oil changed at least every two years. Every year would be better. The gearbox is getting very hot.

I found that thread a while back and had already done the bushing, but am I missing something.

I also tried adjusting the cables to center the shifter gate between 5th and 6th, but it still did not change. I'm still confused how this would cause the problem if the clutch is engaged how does the adjustment create this problem?????
sorry just wondering as I am a mechanic by trade and understand the operation.

    Thanks
    Kink

How many miles do you have on your car ??? Do you still have the original clutch in ?? What kind of gearbox oil do you use ???

    The car has 17,500 miles
When I bought the car in Jan this year the car had 12,600 miles and as far as the history that I found on the car there is no evidance that the clutch had been changed.
As far as the gearbox I had the car totaly serviced (all fluids) at the beginning of this year by the local Fdealer and the car worked fine for say the first 4,000 miles

Im planning on doing the clutch this winter, but want to make sure that there isn't a tanny problem. When I saw the tanny break down and saw that the same synchro was used for 5th and 6th I started to second guess it was a tranny problem.
    Hope this helps

I still belive it's an adjustment problem. The issues you describe sound exactly like mine back then.....Try to adjust the cables one more time !!!

Since you have been there done that, was hoping you may have gotten lucky.. the grinding may as you are starting to fear could be internal..
I believe rifledriver had commented on prior posts of some with internal issues..

Hopefully its not- as I imagine that can get expensive, quick.
Let us know what you find-

When you move the shifter all the way to the right (the position it would be when in either 5th or 6th), does the shaft itself touch the metal guide plate? Mine didn't, and it turned out to be the plate underneath (reverse lockout plate). I had 20 mil shaved off of the right side, and, voila! Problem solved.

Didn't do anything today as it was raining, but I will take it to the shop tomorrow and run through the adjustment process as described in the repair manual. I hope that fixes the problem as Im not to excited about repairing the tranny, but if its got to be done than so be it.
I will post results tomorrow after the adjustment proceedure.

    Thanks

Yes it does touch the guide plate, hopefully when I run through the adjustment proceedure it will resolve the problem (crossing my fingers)

    Thanks
