I have a 1999 360 Neither the a/c or the heat work. The pressure on the compressor is good and the pipes freeze up but no cold or hot air makes it to the interior of the car, only ambient air. What do I do?
The car has 35k miles and I drive at least a couple days a week.
    Thank you
    Rob

Please post the exact steps you are taking to turn the climate control on (i.e. which buttons you are pushing, which knobs you are turning, which order, etc.).

You will probably have to provide more information than you've given to diagnose this over the internet..

    1) You could take it to your mechanic or dealership and let them diagnose and fix things.
    2) If you're mechanically more inclined:

    a) I presume you know how to use the HVAC controls as above and you've had it working before.

    b) is the fan working? could be the fan resistor pack
    c) could be a burned out temperature sensor (thermistor) in the HVAC unit.
    d) could be a burned out HVAC ECU (direction I'd be thinking)
    e) internal cabin sensor right of steering wheel.. is it plugged with lint?
    f) will it direct the air as told? e.g. turn to defrost, turn to vents, heater? could be actuator motor is toast.

I have taken out access panel to the ac lines and the pressure hi and low is good. I believe there is a mix door actuator flap that isn't functioning? Do I need to take out dash? Thanks Rob

If you feel adventurous you can try the circuit board cleaning above. As Trent mentions could be the ECU and a bad connection..

If you think it could be a flap not actuating.. I'd admittedly be surprised you don't feel cold air from the unit in whatever air setting it is in..

Ferrari 360 Modena Parts : Table 140 - EVAPORATOR UNIT

Looks like 3 actuating motors (#7). If you think it's a bad motor you can disconnect from the actuators the pushrods and see if that rectifys things.

Heat valve is by the Brake reservoir. You can open it by connecting + to the black wire on the valve and - to the red wire on the valve. Lowest 2 wires IIRC. This will rule out of its electrical actuation of the valve versus other issue.

You might have to be methodical with this issue and just work through it from step 1. AC cools.. check, AC motor runs- check, air cycles to the different vents with the selector switch - check, etc.

Hey, guys. Another necro bump. Just purchased a 360. Fan works. I can change vents from top/bottom/defrost. I simply have no temp control. No A/C and no heat, so tackling all of this over the winter since it's supposed to rain the whole time LOL.
So... is the info here still good? No new updates? I hate messing with electrical stuff, but I have nobody near me to do it.. so here goes LOL.
Thanks for any updated advice. Starting with all fuses then going from there. Seems that it could be any one of about 50 different things and all I can do is try them all, eh? haha.. but... not really haha.

I can't think of any single fuse which would affect both heat and A/C (without affecting fans and air direction).

    For heat, typical failures are:
Hot water pump (powered whenever the ignition is turned on). Fuse 66 on some cars
TGK valve (which is controlled/powered by the HVAC ECU)
    HVAC ECU

For the AC, there are lots of considerations
    Compressor clutch failure
    Compressor control relay
    RH Motronic ECU
    Refrigerant gas pressure switches
    HVAC ECU
Fuse 65 and fuse 66 on some cars,
    etc...

You can jumper things like relays and pressure switches to help with faultfinding, but some disassembly is required to get to these components.

Where do you start? I dunno.

I would start with checking the charge/recharging the AC. That's all mine needed to get the AC to work. I think when these cars sit it might cause a seal to dry out or something that results in a leak? I'm not sure but in my car's service history the AC has been recharged a couple of times. In 2019 the dealer dye tested the system and couldn't find a leak. The previous owner let the car sit a lot so I'm wondering if my 2-3 drives per week will make it last. I haven't had it long enough to know.

See post #2 - the reason for that post is the on/off switch is ambiguous and it is very often the case that new owners have the climate control off not on and can't figure out why it does not work - in a way it is not an a/c system it is climate control - reread the owners manual section

Ah. So I need to most likely fix BOTH, separately. figures LOL. I'll get started. I know a guy who is good with electrical stuff, if I can find a Factory Service Manual.

** Anyone have a line on a reliable source for a FSM? Even the links to paid .pdfs seem to be scams.

Duly noted. Seems an easy thing to try first. Also, my car did not come with an owner's manual.

Definitely try the STOP button first. It must be out (not pushed) for heat and cooling operation.

There seems to be a partial exception to the rule, however. Someone wrote this a while ago:

I don’t know if this has been independently verified.

Gotcha. Like most, I've done everything with the button in and out. I understand that the button stops the compressor from working (based on a poor-quality .pdf of an owner's manual I've found). I'll keep trying, though. I did get the defroster working!

eBay should be ok. I can't seem to find the manual I have, though. It's only in English and is one volume, not two. The multi-language version is non-searchable.

I have a custom wiring diagram for the HVAC system, but it has a steep learning curve.

    https://www.dropbox.com/t/vZIxgWcIuUabEqMi

You basically need to know how the system works before using the diagram. Also, I'm not sure of the internals of the hot water valve ("TGK").

The AC compressor is shown in the bottom left hand corner. The TGK valve is 1/3rd the way down on the right hand side.

The HVAC ECU sends a signal to the RH Motronic ECU (pin 58) after deciding it needs the compressor to run (determined by your input and sensor input). The signal can be stopped by too low refrigerant gas pressure or too high gas pressure. The RH Motronic ECU then sends a signal to the compressor relay (from pin 13). I don't know why the Motronic ECU is involved. Perhaps it is responsible for shutting down the AC compressor during high acceleration?

Fuse numbers may differ, depending on year and country.

I can see how someone might think this as if you let your heater core circulate to warm it up as it has residual heat that will continue heating for a while, but I've noticed that it slowly dissipates. Maybe someone else had a more permanent experience though? I feel like this is the most confusing/infuriating HVAC operation design ever made. Even worse than the early 2000's BMW's that had a separate temp adjustment for only the top two center vents.

Update: I got heat. Not sure what I did differently other than adjusting temp and fan AFTER undoing the "stop" button. But I had warm air today. Woohoo. Now to recharge the A/C and see what happens.

Mine is sticky somewhere inside so maybe others have this problem? I need to do a deep clean, but basically, it does not transition between temperatures well. Sometimes cycling the recirculate button or maxing the fan out helps move things along inside the mechanism. Not sure if it's the force of the air or the other parts moving around that kicks it back into gear. Had an episode where the windshield vents were blow cold (although the setting was set to blow from the main vents) and the main vents were blowing hot. Can't wait to take it all apart to deep dive into the mechanism.

Do a how-to. Video tape the whole thing lol I may need to do the same. I know it's not rocket science, but still.

Does the 360 have a large rotating tambour for air direction control or do these linkages control small flaps?

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Or is there a combination of both? It's not clear from the wiring diagrams what each actuator does

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

Why are there two "hot/cold mixer" motors?

The F355 system seems much simpler, but it still has its issues.
