Hello. I have a 2001 360 spider, and the recirculate and stop buttons that work the A/C won't stay pushed in. I took the two screws out that appear to hold the silver panel in where the radio and a/c controls are, but I can't get the panel off to look to see if I can fix these buttons. Is there a trick to removing this, or am I missing some screws? The only two I see are directly on the front of this piece. Anyone done this before that can offer some help? Thanks in advance.

    Steve,

You may have to remove the radio to get at them but I don't know for sure.

I am removing my radio on Sunday, and I can check for you unless omeone here knows for sure.

There are two metal fingers about 3" long that come with the radio info which I believe are used to dislodge the radio.

Look up CBreed and contact him. He did this recently on his 430 which would be very similar.

I can't help you with this but you will save a ton of money if you can fix it yourself. My 2002 spider had the same problem. Ferrari of Scottsdale fixed it under warranty. The bill was $1000.

Thank everyone for the help. I figured it out. I was going to shoot photos and post them, but it was pretty easy after I figured out the radio, so I didn't think it was worth it.

For those who care, I used the little tool that was with the radio instructions to remove the radio. Then the two screws on the front of the metal piece were removed and the whole thing came off. I disconnected the two window wires, all the radio wires, and the A/C wire and the piece came out.

The A/C control unit is screwed onto the metal piece with 4 screws, so I took it off. I had two reasons I wanted to do this whole thing. One is that the recirculate air button and the stop button kept popping out after I would push them in. The other was that this rubbery material they put on all the switches was worn and looked bad, so I wanted to try to get it off the switches so they looked better.

Anyway, I just popped the recirculate and stop buttons off, scratched off the rubber stuff took a little foam thing out from the switch, moved the switches over a tad (the reason they were popping out is they didn't have much room on one side, and the way the hold in is by moving a bit to this one side to lock into place). Anyway, the combination worked, cause at least for now, they are staying in place.

I also took the two window buttons off and scraped the rubber stuff off of them as well. I'm not sure this is a great idea for anyone else, but since mine were worn looking, it made them look brand new, and I like the feel better without the rubber stuff on the buttons. They look more glossy instead of dull. Anyway, I cleaned that stuff off, and put it all back together the same way.

Overall, once the radio was out, it was pretty easy. Took about an hour to get it out, cleaned, and back in.

Hope this helps anyone trying to do the same. Good luck.

    Steve

    Steve,

I did suggest to do that but I am in the blind, because I don't know how to use those tools, and I can't find the info in the manual.

Can you post the manual and page and/or give the instructions for the radio removal?

Radio removal is simplicity IF you have the removal keys for the Becker unit.
If you study the keys you will notice that the 'business end' of each key is contoured like the end of a steak knife. You simply insert each key in the little slots under the knobs, but make sure you have the contoured sides facing in (I think) in any event they will only work one way.
Push both in quite firmly, (they should stay in place), and then pull both rings simultaneously, and the unit will slide out. Re-installation just requires that having pushed the radio unit back in, you to hold it in place while pulling out each key.
For anyone who doesn't have the keys I imagine you could fabricate something about 3 " long 1/4 wide by a thickness of 1/16 with a knife ends, that would probably do the job quite well.

    Donnie,

That's what I was looking for.

Nice work and appreciate the response.

    Many thanks.
