My ac compressor has a slow leak. Has anyone added oil to theirs? It still works great, I just want to keep oil in it. Also, what kind of oil is used?

    Thanks!

Just had mine in the shop for the very same... I was told it is supposed to be a completely sealed unit with no "refill" capability.

That's too bad. Did he say how long he thought it might last w/ a leak?

Mine is at the shop getting the oil leak fixed. Hope the leak did not damage the AC system.

Heya David, the only way you can add oil in *properly* is to recover the gas, add some oil, vac her down and fill her back up. :D:D

You can buy oil "injection" kits that puts oil into the a/c system, but it also pushes air into the system at the same time and the a/c may become inefficient. :):)

Or, you can recover the gas..............remove the bung from the a/c compressor and add some oil, then vac her down and fill her back up. :D:D

Either way, you will have to recover the a/c gas to add oil. Its the best way. :):)

Whichever way you go, add around 10ml of oil in the compressor. Each component usually takes around 10ml. A new compressor comes with oil, as does the evaporator and drier. :):)

But if you add your own oil, add around 10ml. Any local auto parts shop should be able to supply a/c oil over the counter. Buy the smallest bottle available. :):)

If you take it to an a/c specialist, then they will know what they are doing. :):)

Please DO NOT attempt to add oil via the bung in the top of the a/c compressor if you have not removed the a/c gas. A/c gas can blind you if it gets in your eyes mate, so please be careful. :):)

Do not open a pressurized a/c system, dangerous stuff. :):)

If you dont feel competent working with the a/c, take it to an a/c specialist. :):)
