I was on my way home from the city and saw this horrible scene at Queens Blvd. on the LIE. My wife happened to have her camera with her. It seems there were 3 cars involved and the 360 went up in flames. I felt sick afterwards. Anyone know this poor guy? My camera takes 5 megapixel pics so I can't upload them because they're too large and imageshack is not working. If someone can compress and post, I'll email the pics. I have 4 of them.

    Looks pretty bad :(

I wonder where the driver went, i assume traffic was stopped, otherwise he would be stuck :(

That'll buff right out... a little Meguires NXT or perhaps some Griots Best in Show, and it'll look like new.

Seriously though, does it strike anyone as odd that the FRONT of the car is toast, not the back?

Yes traffic was stopped for a while. I heard about it on 1010wins before I actually got to it. Felt really bad. I also thought the same thing, why was the front of the car burned but not the back? Very strange.

A good number of the EC crew was out there today and you had me very worried there for a moment. I just came back in from the run and saw your post. I hope the driver got out OK and unharmed...and thank god it wasn't one of the EC crew.

I can only imagine he must have been carrying something flammable in the front compartment? With possible combustion if he ran into something? Agreed that it seems really strange.

running into something explosive occurred to me as well, but for the amount of burning that it looks like happened, I would think he would have to have taken on a lot of fuel from whatever he hit. I don't really know about this kind of thing, though. Nor do I want to...

The fuel tank in the 360 is in the front if I'm not mistaken (weight distribution & space). I can't imagine it anywhere else in a mid-engine car. I know mine is up there in the 993 just in front of the firewall (not pun intended). If hit in a certain way, I'm sure that a small amount of fuel can ignite and cause this damage. A rare occurence of course...but as we see here, quite possible.

Ah. Ok. So this accident was in the EAST bound lanes and not the WEST bound lanes. I was looking for signs of damage as I drove home and did not see anything...

Glad our guys are OK. I hope the owner walked away.

I hope the driver is well also, hate to see some one loose their car like that,,, real shame any way be careful out there we saw a couple of crazy things such as that large metal object on the road that could of damage our car along with serious injury to one of us. be safe.
