    I have an 01 360 with one key and one black fob. I have owned the car for a couple of weeks and noticed the red led light on the dash stays on and the car does not chirp when I lock it although it does lock. OK now the actual problem out of the blue today, the car would not actually start. It turned over with no problem but it is like the immobilezer will not allow the car to actually start.

    After many tries of recycling the alarm the car finally started. I drove it home over an hour, parked it and now it doesn't start again. It will turn over but it just won't fire off. Also when I have been locking the car and not hearing a confirming chirp, I go back and pull on the outside door handle. The car is locked but the window rolls down an inch or so. Then I have to unlock the car and allow the window to go back up. As long as I do not pull the door handle that doesn't happen.

    Today when the car was acting up, I hit the remote to attempt to lock and unlock it and the window seemed to go down even further than it normally does. The weekend is here and I would love to drive this car. ANY IDEAS TO HELP ME!! Thanks in advance!!

    Bill- With any luck, you just need to change the battery in your remote. In and emergency you can get a replacement at Radio Shack until you can find a better battery like a Duracell. The battery is called various names by different manufacturers, but the basic size is an 23A/A23/MN21/21/23 . The attached document shows you the battery. You need a small Phillips head screwdriver to open the case and the battery is in the rounded section near the keychain loop.

    Changing the battery will not affect the operation of the remote. See if you have the Alarm PIN in your documents and you might consider either getting a new set of fobs or cloning the one you do have.

    Ok just went and bought new batteries, let's see if that does the trick...be right back

    Crap, that didn't work. Ok when I went to the car and first hit the remote to lock and unlock the car the window went down about an inch again, just once on the first click. Car still won't start!!!!!!

    For the record this car is a Euro, not sure if that makes a difference.

    The alarm light staying on is a sign that the rechargeable battery in the alarm siren assembly is bad, there are several DIYs on this forum that tells you how to replace the battery with a better unit without buying the entire siren unit.

    As for the alarm issue, I am guessing it probably as to do with the micro switch that detects the lock and unlock of the door.

    Try to pull the door lock (by the door handle) up all the way to ensure the the door the completely unlocked so that the micro switch can detect that the door is unlock and try to start the car and see if that works.

    Great news! I unhooked the alarm siren to replace the battery and the car has started every single time. We are assuming one of the circuit boards inside the siren is corroded and causing a malfunction which won't allow the immobilizer to function properly. Quick, easy fix.

    Bill- I love a happy ending. That is the first time I have heard of the siren causing a problem with the immobilizer. New sirens are not horribly expensive. A little less than $350 for the latest one.

    Also, many euros don't chirp. Only the lights flash.

    Oh that is possible but I figure why have a siren if it is not supposed to chirp. I will let you know once it is fixed. Thank you for your input.

    I never heard that either. Also, tferraris have high resistance wonky electronics. unlike a chevy ferraris always have less electronic issues with a very strong known good battery.

    OK here is why the car wouldn't start. The siren had corrosion inside from the bad battery. One of the connecting pins came loose and was not making a proper connection. That apparently was the problem. Once I took the siren out the car started fine. I have cleaned the siren and repaired the loose pin, reinstalled it with a new battery and it is still starting with no problems.

    Interesting........

    I'm following this thread very closely as I am having identical problems with the alarm system on my '03 Lotus Esprit. The only difference is that mine has twin immobilizer circuits --- one on the ignition and another one on the starter --- so, the car won't even turn over.

    Lotus uses a Cobra system --- anyone know what Ferrari uses?

    I'm hoping they are similar enough, however, that I can use the fruits of your pain to eleveate my pain :)

    I'd sure like to drive the car --- if it would only let me in it, and let me start it !!!!

    Having similar problem with my 328. It seems that the immobilzer is not allowing power to the fuel pump so engine spins but doesnt fire. My maintenance guy who admits not to being an electrics expert reckons it may be due to a faulty immobilzer but by passing it makes no difference. The alarm is switched off (manually with the small key) but could this be having an effect. Oh BTW its a 1987 european model.

    Well wish I could give you more input, but on mine it was as simple as just unhooking the alarm siren. Good Luck!
