Hello, 2001 360 manual owner in Pittsburgh. I recently pulled the motor out of my car due to it jumping a tooth on passenger bank side from sitting before I acquired the car. Anyone close to Pittsburgh that has changed exhaust variators and proper timing procedures. I’d like to learn how to do it with a fellow Ferrari enthusiast. I’m willing to pay for time and materials as well as some great bourbon or wine at end of the job. Motor is out on a stand, parts coming in from Ricambi. Nice work area in my barn with heat.
    Thanks

Here is probably the most in-depth article outlining the procedure, I'm assuming you have the factory WSM to verify.

I have to ask, what was the purpose of pulling the motor?

Thank you, I pulled it to clean up engine bay, change motor mounts and have engine on a stand to do everything properly.

Has anyone used Maranello for parts? I normally buy via Ricambi in US. Maranello is significantly cheaper on my 25 major service parts list.

I have used maranello and they are good, just need to be careful of any import taxes (if applicable).

As for timing the cam shafts, once the motor is together and running you’ll need to hook up a SD2 to monitor the camshaft values. If they are vastly different you’ll get a CEL. I believe the values should be around 660 units but that was ten years ago when I was doing services everyday.

If degreed correctly that will not be a problem. Every car I have degreed the cams and tested electronically the electronic measurement was perfect.

Besides only the exhausts can be tested electronically. If you cannot time them correctly what about the intakes? The correct timing of those is no less important.
