I recently had a 360 challenge muffler fitted to my 2003 360 spider which incidentally is great and much lighter then the 60 lb standard muffler with better sound then the Tubi and half the price. But I need some advice please.
My 360 has a manual shift and the new muffler kit came with 2 ignition modules P/N 173417 ["centralina accensione micro-ib"] which apparently are not required on my car. My question is what do these modules do? Do they have to be programmed? Can they upgrade performance? Are they worth anything? They are in the original Ferrari shrink wrapped packs and I am reluctant to put them in the trash. I looked for previous threads on this subject but without success.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

I think this maybe the engine control unit. Can you post pictures? I'd definitely be interested if it is ECU.

They are probably exhaust ECU's. Whatever you do...... DON'T THROW THEM OUT!

If you sell the car and put the stock set up back on the car and sell the Challenge exhaust, it would be a good idea to have those parts for the next guy.

    Dino,

That sound right. They aren't cheap. Daniel (Ricambi America) sells them for @ $2,977. Unfortunately they don't show up on the parts diagram (for the Challenge) and I couldn't find the part no. A google search suggested that they are ECUs but who knows.

Those are Motronic 7.3 ECUs that control the ignition and injection system and coordinate through the CAN with many other sensors on the car. If you buy them separately they are ~$3K each. Normally Motronic ECUs are F1 or manual specific.

The racing exhaust for the 360 (not Challenge exhaust) came with a set of 2 Motronic ECUs to optimize the ignition and injection maps to take advantage of the freer flowing exhaust. Unfortunately, I cannot find any info on that ECU part number to tell exactly whether they fit an F1 or manual 360, a CS, or a Challenge. Maybe your local Ferrari parts guys have access to more complete parts catalogs through MODIS.

If they are Challenge car ECUs, which means they are designed for F1 trans, I might try running them on my CS as soon as I get my new headers and re-install my hyper-flow cats. I'll need to check with guys from Scuderia Corsa to confirm I can run that software. I'm also tinkering with the idea of running the Challenge car TCU unit.
