Also some after market guys claimed (Kinetix who made cats too) that the red top being made of aluminum suffered terribly from heat soak from engine bay so they claimed you could yield some extra power from different materials and shape... Shame it looked butt ugly!

Thinking on from this you could always get the inside of the cover ceramic coated... ?

You'll also note from the picture the oil catcher tank on the right hand side :)

Ceramic is a good idea so long as the coating is really well done - I have no experience of the process to be honest

If it is the catch tank how have they plumbed it? Can't get my head around that

Maybe it is, haven't studied the 360 N-GT that much but there is are very good reaons why they are silly money, its a totally different car. Super impressive engineering. Total bespoke bits of kit. I know an English guy who owns one but we'd have to take a trip to Poland to see it :)

I have a lot of data on the GT-N, the airbox is very trick and that's why I made my complete airbox system very close to it. Airbox lids have different lengths inside from left to right making the most of restricted air intake rule at the time of competition. If it works well restricted it will be better unrestricted. I'll show some pictures soon of the finished product and
dyno results before and after. Going to the dyno early next week with all stock parts on my 360 challenge for a baseline as the weather is getting warmer a winter baseline is not a fair comparison.

Also note the MAF's have been removed and the throttle bodies are cable not FBW.

On the subject of the airbox are you looking to keep it in the middle or more to the rear like on the GT-N? At the moment I hade thought about relocating it to the back. The header tank OEM is 2ltr and for a road car I would keep it that size.

See picture of possible areas were it can be relocated.

    Hi Steve

Can't wait for the airbox should be mega.

I may be getting a little confused about what you mean but:

    1) I'm happy for the airbox to locate wherever, as long as there is room for a small exhaust at the back.

    2) On the header tank again I think it would look best to retain the standard one in the standard place but if thats not possible then it's not a deal breaker for me and I'll relocate as required. I'd probably look to copy the NGT somehow, integrating the tank into the RHS panel.

    Best

    Julian

    Enjoying this discussion....

    Option1.
We have the 1mm restrictor as suggested by Steve & Trev.

    Option2, what about....
Fit a breather/filter to the oil tank outlet that was from the throttle bodies, and block both suction pipes that are from the oil tank to the throttle bodies/air-boxes.

How effective is the vacuum really at drawing the combustion gases out of the heads anyway ?

Sorry for the confusion the airbox is staying in the same place, I was relating to the header tank that sits in the middle of it. With the new airbox the header tank sits higher than the OEM airbox, if you fit the challenge plexus glass with the oil cooler vent it will hit the underside of the vent. This can be fixed by moving the header forward to clear it or move it to the bulkhead area as in the picture I posted with a new alloy tank that I can also supply.

In a perfect world a crank that runs in a vacuum has very little resistance with almost no windage. The moving air inside the engine also makes heat as it gets pushed around the crankcase. Oil mist is also reduced in a vacuum so it all helps with making good power.

That's fine - I'm wondering if the header would work where the F1 tank is at the back right? I have a hole there in the RHS CS heat shield where there would normally be a cap. Might be a bit low - I can't tell as my car is obviously in bits.... What do you think?

Angus - I think you'll end up with oil mist everywhere if you just put a filter on there. It's got to go into a tank or back into the engine. Or both.

Ever seen a F1 90's Ferrari rear after a race or the front of the car that was behind it

Well the spindles are successfully modified. Felt safe to remove 1.5mm of material from each one - sometimes when you machine one side of piece like this the stress relief can cause the whole thing to bend - not ideal! So anyway that's done - 1.5 x 8 = 12mm less restriction in the inlet. Be nice to get those screws next...

I'd be intrugued to see how much of a difference these make to airflow and turbulence and ultimately power.

    What's your thoughts here?
