360 Crankshaft Pulley Puller (in car)

I assume you have a leaking crank front oil seal...? Is the crank pulley stuck? I replaced that oil seal on my 360 challenge race car through the cabin access panel. The crank pulley bolt was the only that required some muscle (transmission in 6th, foot on the brake, and a 2nd set of hands on the breaker bar), as far as I recall the crank pulley did not require a puller but came right off...

Mine came off with just a little coaxing (no puller); apparently, others are not so lucky.

 

The only reason that they get stuck is when people have been over-keen with the thread-lock. Take off the auxiliary belts then apply a little heat with a hot-air gun. They always come off easily...

 

Well, I've been working on 360's since they came onto the market, and have never needed a puller!

Blue loctite is fine as a normal thread locker, Red requires heat to break the bond - NG for this. Main thing to me is perfectly clean threads. I always put a tiny bit of never-seize on any metal-metal fit that I don't want to fight with but I honestly don't know what this pulley setup is so can't say either way.

Well considering the factory says use locktite and the motors have a known vibration issue that makes things come loose and fracture I wouldn't think anti seize is a good idea.

 

Brian, i'm not talking about using it on things like nuts and bolts, just a very small amount on things that tend to get stuck such as a pulley on a shaft or other places minor corrosion will cause the parts to lock together. Never-seize will have no bearing on it coming loose, that is what the fastener is for. I use locktite on many fasteners, agree 100%, sorry if I wasn't clear.

 

Not needed on the shaft and may be counterproductive to the needs of keeping it clamped absolutely stationary on the crank snout.

An old thread, but I have the same problem - the 360 crankshaft pulley nut came off nicely (flywheel locked method), but the pulley itself does not want to come off (even 24h later after some penetrating oil). Gentle tapping and prying out is not helping - I don't want to use too much asymmetrical force as not to bend the pulley.

Mate of mine runs a shop here in Cape Town and he had the same problem , a little too much locktite . I made this puller ( little crude ) but it fitted between the firewall and pulley

Are you implying locktite was used on more than the thread of the bolt?

 

Yes , think that was the case . I just made the tool .

 

Thanks! I will have someone make a similar tool for me as well (I'm not good at welding). If anyone else wants one let me know so I'll ask to make a few.

I actually have a thread on this exact puller. The first one they sent me was junk, but the second one worked like a charm.
