Hello folks, just wondering if anyone could shed some light on a reoccurring problem. Basically this is what happens:

The doors dont lock, either with the alarm fob or manually with the key. When the fob button is pressed the alarm LED flashes so it is receiving the signal and the electronics attempt to close the locks but re-open immediately. Same happens if I try turning the key in the lock, it turns but immediately theres resistance to bring it back to original position. If I'm sat inside the car and press the door lock button on driver side it just pops up again. The only way I can get it to stay down is if i press both the passenger and driver side buttons down at the same time, and again this only occasioanlly works. When i start driving then I can lock the doors from inside no problem, but at standstill they wont lock.

I had this same problem beginning of this year an the dealer claimed the locks had gone fault and charged me £850 to replace the locks with new ones. I cant beleive the locks have gone faulty again within 6/7 months without much use in between. I am going to give the dealers a call and see if they will rectify it under the warranty of the originial repair but I dont want to be hit with "oh no sir this is a different faulty part" excuse for another bill so I'd be grateful if someone could arm me with any useful info before I call them.

Oh, and the fault generally develops gradually, initially it is an intermittent fault and then becomes permanent (usually quite quickly)

I know my alarm battery is dead/dieing, could that be a contributing factor?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I know this an old post but I too am having these issues on my 2000 360. I am surprised there has not been any response to this. Any one ever had these issues? If so any recommendations?

    Chris.

The locks have a servo system so when you pull or push the drivers side, the passenger side follows. Either the wiring is presenting a constant 'up' signal or the driver's lock servo is sending that signal. I'd pull the connector off each side, one at a time, and observe fob actions. You may be able to learn if only the left or right lock needs changing. Throwing money at both sides is twice as expensive as replacing the single offender.

    Paul,

Thanks for your response. Ill try this out and see if I can pinpoint the bad lock.
lately when my wife exits the passenger door and tries to close it seems to have a malfunction, the door pops back open and it seems as if the door mechanism is trying to pull the door shut then it pops open again. It does this about 3 times or so then I have to close it for her and lock it manually.
    Thanks again.

    Chris.

Just fixed one for a customer and it was the drivers motor. The fault can be read by the sd-2 or sd-3 but it is more than likely one of the lock mechs as they have the motors internally and they list for $400 to $500 dollars each depending on which side is bad. Scott

I had the exact same problem and it was the cables inside the door on the passenger side. I was told to pull the handle several times on the passenger door and it worked a treat.

I would suggest that you do this on both door when they are open and get the cables moving around a bit.

In the end I would assume they would need to be adjusted but this solved my problem for a couple of years with several quick pulls of the handle.

    Hope this helps!

I'm thinking mine might be the passenger door as well as the outside handle pulls up way farther than it should before it actually opens the door. Reading other threads it sounds like the cable is stretched out. Anybody know where to source a new door lock cable?

I'm having the same problem - thanks for the tips guys I'll try these solutions and show this thread to my tech.

Only Ferrari could build such a poor quality door locking mechanism. :sigh:

Ahhh now that's not fair! I suspect it was probably Fiat that produced it! (but yeah, Ferrari might have been more selective!)

    Hi,
The outer pull handle cable seizes and the locking system is half open / half closed. This gives the wrong signal from the micro switch for the central locking, this is why it opens and locks again. The cable was sold by Ferrari as a replacement part but now it only comes as the complete lock. Have replaced quite a few.

Possibly cable adjustment. Remove door armrest (lift from rear) and you will see threaded rod with lock nuts. Adjust rod and hopefully all will be fixed. About a 5 minute job.

    Good luck.
