Would adding a heat sink to the rear of the ECU be of any value? If so, what would you suggest?
Just found an old picture of the capacitor that needs replacing if the ECU throttle body ticking occurs. As you can see the job is all about labor... It's not an expensive component! Image Unavailable, Please Login
The small slither of solder holding them on melts under heat soak ( high thermal stress conditions ) and they become intermittently connected. This leads to stone cold cars intermittently starting or not. Since the capacitors have a lifespan I always just replace them (they cost well under a $ each) but you could probably get away with simply resoldering them if you tested it and it was still working. The trick to soldering them is to heat up the ECU case itself so it's hot touch so that you can solder without the case acting like a giant heat sink. Once you've done a few it's not that hard to repair but again no guarantee that it's going to work but 9/10 times it does. Hope this information helps people who have a failed ECU and are struggling to find a replacement.
Hi Trev,,, my ECU is working properly but need to do the upgrade like the one you did for Scott (ratrossa),,on his 360
If we have old ecu units and a reverse engineered source code. Wouldn’t it be possible to create a new pcb design with modern hardware and surface mount components?
Still waiting for some proven ECU protection to be released so that I can install my new ECUs. I know the offering from EAG, but not 100% it works.
Check out my post "360 ECU Air Intake System". Drop in ECU temp 25 degrees on the highway (60-80 mph). Of course in traffic going from red light to red light, temp. is going to stay high. Have not seen anything to help that problem.
Yes, the code from your original ecu's can be cloned onto any other 360 ECU. I have two units in my car from random wrecks re-flashed and my originals are nicely tucked away in a safe place.
Ecu cooling— relocate into car interior Or some type of water cooling think pc water cooling…., gl! I just drive it stock and take life risks…
If I had a Spider and was more concerned about this, I would get the EAG cooling kit and instead of routing to the ducts in the bodywork, route the ducts to a SPAL 4" fan mounted somewhere under the side covers. It could be wired to a switch or set to run anytime the car is on (fan noise might be an annoyance in the "always on" case). If the fans can be pull-type and mounted to the rear of the side panel covers so that they blow out of the perforated rear screen, that would also help with idle heat soak in general from the exhaust/cats. Not sure how much room there is on the Spiders, but looking at my Modena it appears this would work. Moving the ECUs or adding fans is the only way to fully fix this issue imo.
@360 Can you help me with throttle fault codes iny ECU? I don't have the tools or ability to do this repair, but wondering if you would consider repairing/upgrade my ECU to my 2004 360spider f1? I don't mind paying. I have tried sourcing used ECU replacements and I'm having a beat of a time. Is this something you can do? I'm at a loss. The ones I've found are ridiculous prices -$4500 each. Please help me!!!
