I did a PPI on a 2004 360 Modena last week at the local dealer. The car has 23,600 miles on it. They came back to me with an excellent report, saying all the car needed was a service and replacement of a few "regular wear and tear items".

However, among the list of things to be changed are the engine and tranny mounts. The dealer assures me that those are also regular wear and tear items and that having to replace them is not a sign of abuse for the car.

Is that normal? Mounts do not seem to me to be items that are normally "consumed" during normal operation, but maybe Ferraris are different.

Sounds kinda odd. Engine mounts are not really a consumable item..but the 550 and 456 have noteably crumby engine mounts also but they have much bigger enignes to support. I have yet to see the 360 with collapsed engine mounts.

One of the engine or tranny mounts (dont remember which) was replaced by the dealer during the 30K service. IIRC, it was done under a warranty b/c it showed excessive wear. I can look for the service printout to get the details if you are interested...

Get 360C engine mounts fitted, they are still quite soft rubber but are much tougher. There have been 2 engine mount up grades I think, and there are about 5 different part numbers for the gearbox mount, if you include the 360C options.

I'd go for 360C mounts all round.

On the race cars I run, I also make extra large washers with shoulders on them, to reduce movement even further.

Well, I bought the car today, so I hope this really turns out to be a non-issue.
