The engine check system failure light came on in my 360. I bought the car 2 months ago and am obviously concerned. The dealer I bought the car from suggested I call the company which serviced it last to confirm the reset process, basically turn the battery off for 30+ seconds then start the engine and allow to warm up slowly. This should then turn the light off! Is this sufficient or should I visit a dealer and have it fully checked?

yea, turn the battery off and on will shut the light down, temporarily, that is.

It WILL NOT solve your problem. and it is most certainly not a "reset" issue. You talk to the wrong guy in the dealer and I might suggest that he/she was aware of the problem before he/she sold you the car and not until now you found it!

    no PPI done right?

Get a OBD2 reader and plug it in underneath the steering wheel and let it read the codes, then report back along with any other indications (misfires, rough engine start, etc.). If you don't have a OBD2 code reader, do a search in this thread and buy one. I use an Actron CP9175 model (the model does make a difference, so buy the right OBD2 reader). Without the codes, we are all just guessing.

Could be a loose gas cap to all kinds of things.....get a reader tool and that will help. Nice tool for all of our cars these days.

I wouldn't be overly concerned if it clears after reset (power off under hood for over a minute then put key in position 2 and leave for another minute). Past two years check light has shown on mine about 4 times , first was the day after I bought it (yikes - this really is a Fiat !!) but next morning dealer did diagnosis and it was a bad spark plug (phew!) - next 3 occasions have been just because it hadn't run for a few weeks/months - they are very sensitive to emissions ( hence a slightly loose fuel cap can trigger the check light). IF it happens too regularly (and obviously if the reset doesn't clear) get it checked at a Ferrari specialist - takes them 5 mins.

You don't get a CEL from not running for a few weeks. Sorry but resetting a CEL without reading the code is like ignoring the first heart attack because you didn't fall down dead. Maybe it was just heart burn but deleting the error and ignoring it isn't a solution.

Get a reader or have someone read the code. That will give you some direction and help you understand if it s serious or not. There are a lot of possible causes from an evaporative emissions leak to major mechanical issues. There is no way to diagnose this without reading the code.

The dealer I bought the car from has now booked the car into Maranellos for them to examine and solve the issue, I had suggested a non franchised garage closer to home but he insisted on Maranellos. He suggested the "reset" as a potential solution but not the only solution. Maranello is only 15/20 miles or so from home so not a hardship to drive it there and have a wander round the showroom. I will keep you all in touch with the outcome

Take your code reader and make sure that the monitors are set after the service. If they power cycle the car the light will go out BUT it will probably come back on when you drive for a while. That will mean you drive over there, get a result, and have to go back again; rinse and repeat. Make sure they do the drive cycle and get the monitors set. IF it still doesn't have a CEL you are probably good.

Yea, Yea, call me a cynic.
