My 2001 gated spider has developed a random stiffness in the shifter when fully engaging in gear. The last half inch of movement. Most noticeably 1st gear. I had replaced the shifter bushing with the Hill Engineering version when I purchased my car in 2018. I also checked to see there is grease in that area.
I have read that worn engine mounts and gearbox bushings could cause an issue.
Do the photos attached of the engine mounts appear ok, or are they worn and sitting too low? There is not much clearance between the rubber and upper plate. I also removed one bolt and washer to get a look inside to see if there was any noticeable cracking.

I wouldn't think worn engine mounts would affect the shifter like that, unless every mount was extremely worn to the point that the engine and gearbox could have a lot of play.

If it were me, I'd disconnect the cables from the shifter and see if it goes away. That would tell you if the issue is in the shifter or the linkage/gearbox.

There is this cube that the shifter crosspin goes into the wears down and can cause extra play. I would have that be my guess if the issue is in the shifter.
