I was stuck in a traffic jam today and then the car started to make a beeping sound. No warning lights came on. The car was not shifting automatically back into Neutral. Once I started to move or shifted the car into Neutral the beeping would stop. Any suggestions as to what I should check.

I would guess clutch overheating but I will let others that know more than I contribute.

Is it one tone or a high/low tone?

I also suspect the clutch to be overheating but what do you think should be done about it? The sound was lower than the reverse sound, similar to the beep when you turn of the car.

I had the same in my 2001 360 Spider F1. The relay for the F1 pumps in these are inherently bad and the relay contact points burn up, leaving the relay open which then leaves the pump pumping. In my case, that was an alarm alerting me to stop driving and get it to the mechanic ASAP. Well I did not know this and it fried the fuse for the F1 pump. This shut down the F1 system and put it into a safe mode of neutral, leaving me stuck on the side of the road unable to shift. The mechanic replaced the fuse and the F1 pump relay with an updated one I believe and it is good as new.

    Hope this helps- Mike

It was the relay. Thanks Mike. Hopefully I will finally be able to enjoy my car. I bought this 2000 360 Modena May 24th and it has been in the shop already 3 times for a total of about 4 weeks with various issues that were not spotted on the PPI.
