First, I understand that I need to drive an F1 before coming to any conclusions. In the meantime, have any of you 360 F1 drivers gotten caught in "stop and crawl" traffic? It's a fact of life in CA. :( The way I deal with it now is to get the car barely rolling in first, than drop into neutral and coast the rest of the 1-to-2 car-lengths of progress I am allowed to make. Shampoo rinse repeat, sometimes many dozens of times before the constipation is relieved. Can you flick an F1 in and out of gear like that?

My main concern is that, if the F1 is going to continually slip the clutch because I can't even maintain idle speed in first gear, the clutch will go to an early grave.

That's what I do. I did that with my Maserati QP and do it my Scuderia (although I try to avoid traffic like the plague in that car). Service didn't note any abnormal wear on the clutch, and my QP was my daily driver in stop and go traffic. That, however, is just anecdotal. I don't know if that's the solution. I keep it neutral at the stoplights too. It made mechanical sense to me in theory, but I'm sure this won't be the final answer and others will have better insight.

I have a 6 speed manual. Usually if you leave a little room between you and the car in front of you, then you can just leave it in 1st gear and crawl along with traffic. If things slow, then you just put in the clutch for a second and coast. No idea with an F1

I pretty much do the same thing with the F1 clutch. You get it up to speed then pull back on both pedals dropping it into neutral.

I drive the roads of SoCal on a regular basis and try to leave room in front of me to coast, but I always wind up with an idiot from another lane jumping in front of me. The frustration level this creates makes me have compassion for those that express road rage.

This is pretty much what I do with my F1. A throttle bump to get the clutch engaged, then just crawl along in gear. You want the clutch engagement to be quick and crisp. DO NOT feather the throttle and ease the car along like you would an automatic. Leave enough room that you don't have to touch the brakes. When you touch the brakes the clutch will disengage and you have to go through the engagement process again. You can go to neutral but there is no need to. You are better off to keep extra room and keep the clutch engaged. Also let the space open some before you move forward. The goal is to minimize the number of clutch actuations and to keep them crisp, you don't want slipping.

    Yep, what Skidkid said.

My experience is that the F1 is actually easier in traffic than a 6-speed. It's easy to control clutch engagement with the throttle and brakes as described by Skidkid but without constantly pumping a clutch peddle.

Imagine if kids driving Honda/Scion/Huyndai ..with Tubis, trying to race with you. Worse is young guys with Porsches, especially at traffic lights.
