Which one between 360 F1 2000 or Ford GT Heritage Edition? pros and cons?
Well, you could get 2 360's for one Ford GT. That has something to say in the argument. Aside from being 2 seat sports cars, they are really apples and oranges. A better comparison would be an F430 vs the GT. The 430 is what Ford used as the standard to beat when they made the GT. The 430 is not a maintenance hog but if it breaks, it can be costly. I've never driven the Ford but I imagine it's a beast. The interior never did it for me but the outside is really gorgeous. I think the F430 is also a bit more user friendly. Honestly, I wouldn't mind having a Ford GT in my garage but I'm not much of a coupe person when it comes to sports cars.
Top Gear did a segment on the Ford GT. It was even a comparison with a Pagani Zonda and Ferrari F430. Basically, the Ford GT was described as being very fast and smooth.... "GT-like" and in its best element when on the freeway at high speeds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJbR29YSwB4 Not that any of these cars are very practical, but the GT has nearly zero boot space. It looks big when you open it up, but the scoops indented into the boot lid take that away when you close it. It is probably more collectible and more likely to hold its value in the long run. I was seriously considering one because it is so unique, but in the end, I was swayed by the lower price of a 360, the fact it could be had as a spider, and the qualitative difference in the driving experience. And, oh yes, the boot space. I use my car on weekend getaways when I can, so do need at least some luggage space and 360s/430s have a decent amount, especially for an exotic.
Ford GT > 360F1.....no brainer in my opinion. More reliable, faster, easier to service, more "collectable", unique design, etc.
Agree with the majority in this thread. 360's were mass produced and well I don't think will ever be collectable. Napolis put it best in another thread "Modern Ferrari's age like fish not wine" or something along those lines. The GT is a spectacular car, I drove one for a few days when they first came out (friend owns a Ford dealership was his personal daily driver for a while). They were produced in limited numbers, are very comfortable, and really cheap to maintain (most parts are found on other Ford vehicles so if you know how to cross reference the numbers.....). I also loved the ease of getting in and out, being a rather large guy half the roof comes out when the door's open so you just stand in the floor board and sit straight down. Kind of nice.
when it comes to performance, maintenance, looks (personal opinion) and just about every category out there, the Ford will win hands down. when it comes to price and the name badge, the Ferrari will win
The Ferrari is a real car with luggage space for trips and golf clubs. The Ford GT is an icon car with really high performance and very little luggage space. Which do you need? The 2 360s for a Ford GT comment by bdelp is accurate. Taz Terry Phillips
I'm going against the grain here. I am a Ford dealer and I sold 13 GTs new. Even took one on trade for a Saleen Mustang. I considered keeping the traded one (red 05 with stripes) but one drive with my wife made me run to a cherry 99 360 F1. She hated it the GT. She sat too low to see out any window. It actually made her ill. Plus it's a big car compared to the Ferrari. And I've cracked my shoulder on the door/roof combo so many times it's really a pain in the ass. Also I've driven so many manuals over the years I am really enjoying the F1 experience. To each his own but I really really like my 360.
Height will be a determining factor with the GT.. Around 6'2 is the cut off height for fitting comfortably without modification.
I was comparing the two cars last year before buying my 2004 360 Spider. There was a thread about the comparison, some members own both and provided good insight. Make sure you go sit in a Ford GT before you spend too much time on this. Once I sat in the Ford GT I decided not to purchase one. I hated the interior. I find the Ferrari much nicer inside. Purely a matter of personal taste. For me it was a gut feeling about the car. I considered Porsche Turbos and Vette ZR1 but I wanted a Ferrari... As far as speed comparisons I think for most people that is a purely academic consideration. Any of these cars is far too fast to really exploit on the street. If I was buying a track car then it would be more important.
Bob, right on the money about 430 vs Ford GT. I have started looking for a GT as a compliment to the 430, also I think the GT will hold it's value.
So dump the wife for spirited drives in teh Ford GT and have some fun with the guys. I see no problem here. Only 4038 Ford GTs. 18,000 Ferrari 360's can't be wrong, its just that they haven't fully depreciated yet.
My only issue with the Ford is that.... it's kind of a replica. I love the looks but it's always going to be regarded some kind of copy of the original. The 360 and 430 are all Ferrari. The only reason it will hold it's value will be because they stopped production at about 3000 cars. That's just one year of the 430's production. If they kept making the Ford Gt's, I'm sure the resale prices would have fallen just as much as a comparably priced 430 coupe. So, 360 to Ford Gt -- Ford wins easily (unless the purchase price is the issue and then the 360 wins easily) F430 coupe to Ford Gt-- Ford by a nose. F430 spider to Ford GT -- F430 spider all the way.
has a massive A pillar, seems confining, its fast though and probably easy to fix the motor. I would probably do the 360 given the lower cost,
also it's a giant PITA to get in and out of, and you can't carry anything. hence the reason for my questions. any answers without knowing intended usage is a waste of time, IMHO. might as well be asking which car is prettier.
Huge price difference, as stated earlier 430 vs. GT is the right comparison. GTs are holding their value very well. GTs have had numerous build quality/reliability issues; it's because of constant breakdowns that Jeremy Clarkson sold his after a short time even though he loved the looks and performance.
I read that Clarkson got rid of his GT because the alarm system that he had installed was causing problems. IIRC, the alarm's immobilizer wouldn't let the car start. I don't remember if it was an aftermarket unit or Ford alarm, but Ford (or whomever worked on it) couldn't figure it out. Otherwise, I'm not aware of the GT's numerous build quality/reliability issues. There was a recall or two (suspension arm), but that's about it afaik. One has shown up at C&C a few times and it looks well made, IMO. The owner reported no problems. The motor and manual trans are near bulletproof and there's really not much to the car...limited electronics, gizmos, etc. If you have a link to a website or article that describes the GT's problem areas, please post it.
