Can anyone help with this F1 Problem Was driving the other day and after parking for approximately 30 minutes i went to select reverse and it would not go in, eventually it engaged but the problem was continually there for the rest of the day When i selected reverse the the R would not come up on the dash but the car seemed to go through some procedure as i noted that the engine would not accelerate, i would then select neutral and engine was fine, it seems that the switch is working but the gear selection was not happening. the next day all was well again and the problem has not come back Can anyone suggest a possible cause Kipper
One of the most common problems is the F1-reverse lever goes "floppy" because the small pins on it become worn/break. Are all other gears shifting normally? If yes, and your reverse lever doesn't have a relatively "firm" feeling, it could indeed be a simple fix. We have a replacement piece for the F1 lever available here: RL01 360F1 Reverse Gear Lever : Ricambi America .
Thankyou for the reply, the lever appears OK and the micro switch seems to be working I can hear a click sound and the car is recognizing some input because the Engine RPM will not rise until Neutral is selected again? Kipper
It has happened to me a few times after a long drive. Usually off the freeway and then the car is parked. I put it in first and then reverse. That works for me. The F1 is finicky at times.
Frustrating as it has never happened before, however when it did it remained for the rest of the day, moving into first and back again did allow selection occasionally, There must be a logical reason for this Kipper
You might want to try changing out the F1 fluid gradually. I did on mine and felt that it actually shifts smoother. But then, it could be a psych thing.
Hi Mello I recently had fluid service and bleeding of the system, it appears to me that the solenoid or actuator for the reverse is not engaging, i will soon have a good look at this and the connections as soon as i get a chance i will first have a look at all the previous posts on this area to try to get an indication on how the system works Kipper
Has happened to me twice in the 6 years I own my 03 spider. Power switch reset both times and issue has not been back since.
This sometimes happens due to the clutch PIS setting. Do a search. Sometimes going from 1 to R may work from time to time. My friend had the same issue on his car.
Yeah, I'd suggest getting the PIS reset at the service dept and see if that fixes it. Could just be a sign the F1 is not calibrated correctly for the current level of clutch. Also, just stating the obvious, but remember to have your foot on the brake before trying to shift into R.
happened to me last week...my mechanic will be coming over one day this week to adjust the pin...will let you know how he goes
