I am going to install a new F1 pump soon and was looking at some videos and it seems everyone is just installing the motor and not the head assembly. Trying to understand what is up with that. Looking for advice. Thanks

It is easier and no need to change pump side if wasn't burned out ( metal shavings in fluid)
If you are not having any issues other then a weak sounding pump ... changing the motor side should be sufficient
Why are you changing it - what are your issue/symptoms -

I just installed a Scuding Swiss Smart Relay and it is telling me that the pump is staying on too long. I have had the car 10 years and have never changed the pump or accumulator, so no telling how old they are. Stef at Scuding Swiss suggest changing both of them also. At start up pump sounds fine but I do get a F1 light for a few seconds and then it goes out. Car shifts fine. Thank you for your reply

If you would like I can spend 30 mins on the phone with you ( service is free) and determine what parts are failing
Just PM your number and a good time to call - It would be better if you had a simple diag tool as well like the AP200 but not necessary
We can talk all things F1

You can use a BMW 335 SMG pump and motor. Just need to swap the pump heads and flip the connector on the motor.

    Just updating this post

As a side note ...since I truly hate when threads are opened and never closed with a resolution I make it a point when I help someone that we agree that one of us (depending on time etc) will close the thread ..

Mel has allowed me to close this thread

After reviewing concerns with Mel I suggested he purchase a thinkdiag2 for proper diagnosis

After reviewing data and a number of timings we determined that the pump was fine and that he needed an accumulator

Mel, with a little guidance from me, changed the accumulator and properly bled the clutch; thus making a successfully repair

The timings were rechecked to confirm fix

We also did a gearbox relearn

Everything seems to be in order now

Mel will be driving the car and if anything comes up we will report it back here

    Thank you
