I've have my exhaust in for a few months now, along with Steve's switch, and love it. I haven't installed the heat shield that comes with the kit yet, and was wondering how many people had. It would seem that a freer flowing muffler would expel more heat, than the factory can, but am I wrong? It seems to be hotter, but just speculation, not measured.

    Thanks!

I purchased the racing (well, not really racing) exhaust from Ferrari and installed it. I also installed the heat shield that goes on the deck lid - directly over the muffler.

I think all it really does is protect the paint on the deck lid from heat. Nothing more.

If you don't have a rear challenge grill, installing one of those will help lower heat back there.

    What is Steve's switch?????????

The original factory muffler may have more insulation - hence lower heat?

I went from an aftermarket system that had NO insulation - so mine got cooler with the racing exhaust.

Install the heat shield, there is more heat than the factory exhaust and it will cause your paint to bubble/flake eventually.

I believe Steve's Switch is an exhaust valve controller

Yes, that's the switch. I did install the heat shield for the transmission mount, but not the one for the decklid yet. I do have the rear challenge grill. Thanks for the tip.

I installed the deck lid heat shield. It gets really HOT in there!! I'm so surprised the amount of heat in the engine bay hasn't melted any wires..

For sure. install the heat shield. Especially if you do not have the Challenge grill. The system generates serious heat. Don't procrastinate...it could cost you some paint repair if you do. Then enjoy the music.

I have racing exhaust and did not install heat shield as the instructions stated to use blind pop rivets. Did not want to drill holes in the inner liner of the deck lid. Also, as my luck would have it, as soon as I riveted the damn thing in place, there would be some reason to remove it.

I have the rear Challenge grill, so that vents a lot of heat. Also, after I get back in garage after a drive, I raise the deck lid for extra cooling.

As far as heat goes, with the Challenge grill, the deck lid does not get any hotter than if you leave the car out in the hot Arizona sun for an hour or so. Surface temp of the deck lid gets to about about 160 to 180 deg F in hot AZ sun actually a bit less if heat only from the engine bay.

Take a temp gun to your paint after a drive. That bonnet is cooking. Mine is usually around 140ish. and the Challenge grill is up around the 150's. Headers about 395 and welds on exhaust, 402 was the highest I got. It is quite mind blowing that all the paint in the rear doesn't just flake off.

On a hot arizona day after couple hours in the sun the surface temp gets hotter than that. Closer to 150 To 160 F. If you have a black car the surface temp could get to 170.
