Guys, i've just had the car back from a major service for about a month now and the problems that did arise and needed fixing have been done. Everything was fine up until last night when I noticed a creaking sound coming from the passenger side of the front suspension area. Its def coming from that area. This morning, started the car up and again, everything was fine for the first 30 mins or so, but then the noise returned and it got progressivly worse. It just sounds like a creaking floor board but does it even on the smoothest of surfaces. I was told the ball joins were fine but could these be the culprits? I always thought that worn ball joints would make a knocking sound and not a squeak. Or perhaps (and hopefully) it may be a case of some good old fashioned lube being required? Any advice guys, please! Its driving me mad!

Worn ball joints make all sorts of noises. I'm surprised if it is a worn ball joint that it wasn't picked up a the service. It's normally the lower bearings that fail. If you need to replace them, buy the Hill Engineering ones from Daniel at Ricambi, they shouldn't fail again.

Sounds like a bush is a little dry. Get under there and spray each bush with lube, one at a time to pin-point the culprit. ;);)

I doubt its a ball joint. More prone to knocking if that were the case. :):)

$2 for a can of WD40 (or whatever you call it over there) should do the trick.

This is apparently becoming a joint effort!

I would take a look at the sway bar mounts.

ball joints rattle. If it's creaking it will be a flanblock. A liberal application of the aforementioned wd40 will prove this. Do one suspension arm at a time to isolate it. You need a press to remove and install them

whats the flanblock? Would the ball joints also make a noise like something is loose behind the dash and sliding around?

The flanblock is basicaly Ferrari-speak for the suspension bush, there are two in each wishbone. It's a two-piece unit which has an insert the rotates within the outer bushed part. Over time these get corroded internally, and as they begin to sieze, you get a creaking noise from the suspension. When i service a car i usually pull the bolt out of the ball joint and check the arms move freely, if they are a little stiff i pull the centre out and clean it up, and it keeps them going a bit longer. If you end up removing the ball joint bolts to do this, make sure you put a dab of blue locktite back on the bolts when you refit them and do them back up to torque(85Nm lower bolt, 65Nm upper bolt). This won't make the noise like you have something moving around though!!

again guys, forgive my ignorance, but is this readily accessible to me without having to take the wheel off or does there have to be a more involved process? Once again, im really grateful to all of you.

Wheel, brakes, springs, shocks, etc. If you are asking this question you should take it to a shop.

    John(SkidKid) is correct.

    This is not cosmetic jewlery.

You need a shop to serve up the flanblocks!

This is not for the faint of heart!
