Great you got it worked out, and with some extremely fantastic, and unusual, customer service and a free $2k+ value part ;).

I'll keep my eye on the weather and we'll go for a spin one of these weekends.

Well get a load of this, I thought the car was working fine until I drove it another 10 miles (the weather delayed extensive road testing) and it shifts no better than the other three times Midwest Auto Group (MAG) said it was fine. Remember, FNA, supposedly flew a rep down along with an updated ECU before they gave me the car a week or two ago and he gave the car his "blessing."
So for the fourth time I returned the car, MAG has now had my car for do a clutch service since the week before Thanksgiving, about 3.5 months!!!
When I returned the car I told them to pull the panel off so I could see what ECU they put in. Guess what, they lied to me. It was the original ECU, no upgrade as promised. Imagine where my blood pressure was. They later claimed that they got a "Challenge" ECU and put it in to no avail, meaning the car still did not engage well. They are unable to tell me if the ECU is a Challenge Stradale or just a Challenge ECU (see other post asking what part number 183770 is, that is the number on the ECU, at least according to MAG, I have not seen the unit.)
Now they claim that they are going to re-do the clutch service with another "kit" from Ferrari.
These people have no business working on Ferraris and I am terribly perplexed with FNA's rep, Chris Gallager (sp?) for even allowing MAG to spend close to 4 months with my car doing what is a very routine service!!

Sorry to hear your woes. Why not take your car to someone else and end your pain? See if they will give you are part refund to also end their pain. They probably don't want to see you anymore than you want to see them.

While the early programing was poor it did work for a number of model years. Rustybits gave you the idea of dinking with the clutch thickness to sort of monkey the system. If MAG is truely incompetent what makes you think they put in a clutch system to proper spec? Maybe this is part of the problem where the old TCU setup just does not have the dynamic range to autoset a wonky clutch pack. You got a pressure plate, clutch disc with marcel spring, flywheel and throwout bearing. Each of those items needs to be in a specification range even for a foot driven unit. We know the F1 is a tempermental beast. With clutchs a few tenths of a millimeter made a difference.

Any news on Eric355 and reading the various TCU's?

I'll echo what everyone is saying about this being a fickle system. rustybits has great info on what is going on.

Just based on the circumstance, the ecu would not be my first level of diagnosis. They did mechanical work and there has been a problem since it was done. That would be the first place I would check. Hopefully when they re-do the clutch, it will be done correctly. Be sure to tell them you want a new clutch sensor installed at the time disassembly, PERIOD. Also, if they replaced the throwout bearing, have them double check the direction of the magnet for the clutch sensor (although I think this will cause different symptoms) Best of luck to you on this!!

IMO you stay with MAG until they get it right..they have the skillset and diagnostic equip.(SD2-3) to get this corrected..Issues with dealers are usually in other areas..I would love to say to bring it to us but they owe it to you to properly diagnose and repair..
