Hi - I need to remove and repaint the heat shield that protects the F1 reservoir and am not sure of the best way. It's attached at the rear by two removable Allen head screws but the front appears to riveted to the frame. What's the best way to remove the rivets without causing damage? I would drill them out but cannot access them (even with the air intake cover removed). And then how to reattach it - rivets again?

Would an alternative be to buy the larger cover that's used on the CS? Is it a direct fit or is some work required? I've seen them online....

    Thanks!

The riveted-on bracket just bolts to the chassis. Remove the RH engine bay cover for access. I removed mine and painted it with heat resistant paint.

    PS Happy new F1 pump!.......

Dremel makes an "extension cord" thing for their high speed grinders. You can get into some really tight spaces with one of those. You may be able to grind off the tops of the rivets and remove the panel that way. No way use stupid rivets to reattach.

The front section of the pnl you want to paint is riveted to a bracket. The bracket is bolted to the frame with a single bolt. If you remove the engine bay side pnl you will see how & where it's attached.

I replaced mine with the CS pnls a couple years ago. They don't just bolt in. It requires the installation of a couple riv-nuts to secure the bottom half of each pnl. When I get home I can snap some pics.
