    Mine currently has 52k miles.

Things to look out for in my experience:
    1) Brake rotors and pads likely need replacing
    2) ABS pump may need to be replaced depending how much it sits, motor may burn out or freeze with rusting
    3) Plastic clips in engine compartment due to heat will degrade and break free (hold hoses to air filter box
    4) Sport switch may wear out and not remain "on" when flipped down
    5) Rear exhaust can will leak white power and make your engine compartment look liek an 80's rocker party.
Starts every time, runs wonderful. :)

Mine has only 36t miles but I would add that it is essential to check to the power connection between the battery and alternator. There is no fuse and the connectors are likely to wear to the point where the connector on the alternator can come loose, shorting on the car and causing(at worst) a fire. I have mentioned this before and have had first hand experience, not fire but had a fried alternator.

My 2000 year car has only a little over 50k - she broke off a variator at 18k miles / 2 years and had the engine replaced under warranty. Familiar with most of the common issues by now but replying/subscribing to see what comes of this thread.

Only one unusual issue in the last 10k in my care, she developed a coolant leak in the valve covers whereby one of the spark plugs became immersed in coolant. Other than this just the usual stuff, a thermocouple went bad, gearbox mount wore out, exhaust can split (white dust), discs wore out, first clutch did 38k miles (manual), secondary butterfly valves are a bit noisy.

Engine is good and strong, linear power all the way to red-line. Good solid car, drives all the better/smoother after a solid days thrashing on track.

My car is 2003 with 66K.

    At 45K miles:
    -burnt tranmission sensor
    -Thermostat valve malfunction

    At 60K miles
    -new exhaust manifolds (warranty)

Engine runs fine with no significant oil leak or other problems.
Valve train is a bit more audible.

So far, this thread is very comforting to a new owner. Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling, even if it is only in the 20s here today.

    (not to get off topic)
I have a NSX and while i dont have a higher mileage car (seen them with upwards of 410k+), my maintenance so far after 2 years is an oil change every 3k miles, tire pressures with season changes and trying to keep it clean :)

I wasnt the one who brought Honda/Toyota vehicles into this.... Just merely adding to what was already said.

as for the same league... it all depends what you mean.
Did my NSX have a just shy of 100k window sticker? YES
    Did a 2000 360 have a sticker of $130s? YES
Is the NSX an Exotic? YES
Is the Fcar an Exotic? YES
Was your previous 996 Turbo Exotic? NO - It was a sports car
    Are they both ITALIAN? NO
Do I think my car is a Ferrari? NO
Is the FCar More reliable? IMHO NO - I would drive my car to California and back tomorrow without even thinking of any failure.
Is the FCar Faster? Since the FCar gets 13mpg avg vs my 21mpg avg and obviously larger engine with 3.2 v6 vs 3.6 v8 displacement then it probably has more power both 0-60 and 60-130. Nürburgring lap times both 7:56 for the upgraded CS and NSX-R)
Do I see threads like this on the NSX boards? NO People start the high fives at 200k+ Miles

If I wanted the marquee a Ferrari I could have, but I enjoy Driving my car and not just looking at it in the garage or less than 20 miles from my house at a C&C. I also like hanging out with people who would never use the phrase "Do you think your car is in the same league as mine?" regardless of what they have. Guess that was also one of the reasons I decided against the FCar... Some of the crowd thinks they have something no one else can obtain.

Again I wasn't trying to turn this into a flame war or even trying to get it off topic as the topic has been debated for years. BUT if you're going to make a statement like that then I will respond.

I'm not quite that high. I have 37 k miles. I just took it in for the 30 k service. Everything checked out except for the gear box mount was shot and the thermostat is stuck open. Brakes are fine and I have put 8 k on the car since I owned it and have only wore the clutch 8%(F1). I had stated in another thread the actuator is leaking, however, I will most likely wait until a failure before it gets replaced. I have the 1170 Error code that pops every 100 miles but the Dealership could not find any abnormalities with that and I was tired of throwing money at it so I live with clearing it every 100 or so miles. All in all the car has been very reliable. I can't wait to get it back because they told me the timing was quite off and it had needed new plugs so I am hoping it is going to be a wee bit feistier :)

Not to get into a pissing match, however in 2000 , the NSX had a sticker of $88,000 with very few options offered. The 2000 360 Modena had a base price of $138,000. Anyone that knows Ferrari's knows the base model price is kind of a joke. There was was almost $50,000 worth of options you could have gotten on the car. Very rare to see one without at least $15 k of options. In 2000 you could have bought a brand new NSX and the most expensive fully loaded vehichle Acura made besides the NSX and still got out of the door cheaper than a Modena that had shields and painted Calipers... I would hardly put the 2 cars in the same price class.... Just saying

So youre comparing vehicles with options? Most dealers would put together a $20+k package with a supercharger, exhaust various other things. but I wasnt getting into the "options" just MSRP.

but getting back to the League thing, Please define this "League"

Ok even of straight msrp base models you are talking a $50 k difference. That is 57% more. Huge difference. My Ford Focus I have just got a 50 k service. It cost about $750. My Ferrari's 30 k service is going to run me just shy of $8000. The Focus costs about $13 k new, the Ferrari was $170 k new. I would not expect the Focus to cost as much to maintain as my Ferrari. They are not in the same "league" when it comes to price. The NSX is not in the same in the same league range as a Ferrari. Comparing cost of ownership or maintenance is like comparing apples and oranges. :)

:) I didn't start in comparing a FOCUS to an NSX (though the maintenance on my NSX would probably be equal or cheaper... Just saying lol)

OK so just the price of the car means its in a different league? The Porsche GT2 is the same price but not in the same league right?

Funny of the small list of things I said, aside from the price being the major difference there really wasn't anything argued/bickered that showed such a different league.

I am also laughing about the "options comment" To think for $138k they didn't give you everything for that price ;) why have to pay more just to have scrape protection (shields) added. Why wouldnt they throw it in for the price knowing they are needed on almost all of the cars? But I guess thats the logical me talking. Hence why I talked myself out of the 360 I was looking at. I like to get in the car and go, not worrying and or thinking about all the maintenance or reliability.

The part that really irks me is while looking at the BRADEN post with the CS Major with 36k on it one of the pictures talks about oil leaking from all the "common areas". Why didnt they just fix it at the factory level? No way would i be happy about spending 170k (according to what your car was) and having "all of the common" oil leaks with only 36k miles. I am way to OCD to have things like that.

To the point about league. I was very serious about buying a Esprit or NSX over the summer, I am 23 and wanted something exotic but was not ready for a Diablo or 360. After trying to convice my wife and family over the course of 2 months it was clear that pretty much anyone that saw the Ferrari 360 put it in a class above nearly anything else they had ever seen and could not imagine buying anything else if I could afford the 360 in just a short period of time. I live in Michigan, cars like the NSX are uncommon but a Ferrari 360 is downright a UFO over here. I posted the question to Friends, Coworkers, etc and it was clear that in the minds of car guys and non gear heads just the sound and visual interpertation of the Ferrari was overwhelming.

My wife has been at speed in a 550hp Z06, modded Esprit, Viper, etc but after an hour in the 360, she went into her second year of nursing school determined to incenerate anything in her way. She has not been the same since that drive.

Personally I think the Esprit and NSX are great cars and a bargain for the money, but their is no way I could have the money to afford a 360 and not go home with one. The feeling of the Ferrari is such a different sensation than any other exotic I had ever been in, and the emotional responses that the public have further amplifies the experience.

Ferrari and Lamborghini have something (whether it is just smoke and mirror or not is debateable) that creates in immense emotional response in many people, for that reason even if the car measures up with them on paper, in the eyes of many it will be no comparison. Sort of like I really enjoy the Noble M400 and 360 but a Lamborghini Diablo will send me over the edge...

Look, the NSX is a nice car. It's reliable and fast. But the Porsches and the like just aren't in the same league. It's not just about performance. Some WRX's that are less than $18k will blow the doors off my car. Do I care? No.

Each and every C+C, every time I drive my car downtown or for that matter to Trader Joes (yes some of us do drive the car like a car.. and some of us even fix our own cars.. but that's another story entirely), there is someone taking a picture of the car and/or ogling it at a stoplight. That's the difference. Until you have a Ferrari you won't understand... I know I didn't. It's in a completely different league. The same way that if you go to a bar with hot stripper chick or Victoria Secret model. Both are hot. Both have the same dimensions. But the VS model is just in a different league. Does the GTR blow the doors off anything on the road.. probably. Does it look like the base 997 with different wheels and paint, yes.

360's when they first came out were "priced" at $135k, but went far higher because of demand... even the base models. These cars with all the "issues" likely aren't driven, hence the issues and hence this thread..

Oh and DiabloTerr.. the sweetest day is when you sit in your 360 or Diablo. It will come. :)

I have been in a Ferrari for about a year and a half. I think you will find that Ferrari makes a great car but it is common to have certain issues with certain models. The earlier year models tend to have the issues pop up and they are upgraded as the model years move on. This also makes for a great after market such as what Hill Engineering does. It really is crazy but I guess that is the mystic of owning one. I've never owned a Harley but I have been told that they all leak and it is pretty much accepted.

Owning a Ferrari is not for the weak at heart. A rule of thumb I use is whatever it costs to repair it on a normal car just multiply by 10 and you are all set. That being said I still think it is the premier name brand in the market. The average person thinks everyone costs a million dollars and they only made 10 of them so when you arrive some where it always draws a crowd. Even though they make 7,000 now per year, there are only 3 or 4 in the town of 80,000 that I live in. Hence, people are excited to see it. If you don't own one it is hard to describe and I don't think he was trying to sound superior since every Ferrari owner I have ever met is just the opposite. I think the exclusiveness is what he was referring to.

Well put. Could not have said it better myself.
There are issues with the cars, I cant deny that, but we LOVE them and live with whatever it brings :)
I have 55000kms on my 360 and could not be happier.
