I’m a bit confused about what hydraulic steering fluid to put in my 360. The manual recommends Shell Donax TX. Initially all I could find was Shell Donax TG which is labelled as hydraulic transmission fluid. The wrong stuff then. However, I have now tracked down a garage that stocks Shell Donax TX and it is also labelled as hydraulic transmission fluid. So now I’m confused.

Is the hydraulic steering fluid that Ferrari recommends actually a hydraulic transmission fluid? Is hydraulic steering fluid and hydraulic transmission fluid basically the same stuff? If so can I put Shell Donax TG in the car (I have two bottles) or should I stick with Shell Donax TX?

    P.S. The car is a 1999 360M F1

P.P.S. I’m based in Europe, not sure if the products are branded under a different name in the US.

I think you'll find it recommends Shell Donax Sx no?? Tx is trans oil, and used in the F1 system...

that said, Tx is fine in steering, but Sx is not so good in the F1....

Any Dexron 111 will be fine in the steering. try to stick to one that's red, as some are not.

    Cheers for the quick response!

SX? Quite possibly. I don’t have the manual to hand and could have got confused with all the different types of Donax. So I have a couple of litres of TG which has Dexron III on the side and is in red bottles. This will be OK for the steering?
