Hello all, After having driven Porsche's for many happy years, I am ready to try my hand at a Ferrari. I like to drive my cars instead of having them sit in the garage. So...my question is, does anyone drive their 360 year round in the northern climes ?
No way, too much sand down to melt the black ice for me, plus 2wd just doesn't work in the winter conditions in my area, that's what my Tahoe is for.
Most of the good Porsches get put away for the winter here in Alberta. Only the SUV ones do I see in the winter, or the older ones. The neighbor with the newish one puts it away; the neighbor with some old ones uses a 928 year round, to pull a trailer even. It's not just the ice, it is the salt and gravel that goes on the winter roads here more than anything. Calgary is the windshield and headlight replacement capital of the country. Both my 360 and my old Mustang sit in the garage on or under the hoist, with covers on, for the too long winter here.
Well come to Toronto...I drive my 997 year round! Porsches are MADE for snow with all that weight over the driven wheels and impenetrable rust protection!
No I store mine from December through March (Wisconsin winter). With the amount of salt they throw down its just not worth it. If you do a search, this topic has been debated numerous times. I think the overall consensus is NO WAY due to low ground clearance in snow, the 360 obviously does not handle slippery conditions well, salt/sand, etc, its simply not worth the risk. Plus, an added bonus is every time I take it out of storage in spring, it feels like I'm driving it for the first time.
To the OP, tell us where you please. Northern climate could mean different things, for example in the UK is just usually means cold (but above freezing) and rainy for 3-6 months in which case driving the car is not really a problem - although less fun of course. Apart from anything the car will get more dirty driving in winter months which will be difficult to clean to a level that someone else would want to buy the car. Prospective buyers like to get a detailed car for their money. I'll be driving mine in the UK through winter, but only on dry days and when there is no salt on the roads. We have a few months a year of snow and salt/sand on the roads. Any low riding car isn't gonna like that. I drive the ferrari year round, but when the roads are grimey, she stays home.
I have driven my Porsches year round. No way I´ll be driving the 360 around in the wintertime here.... Its just so much more fragile and exposed than Porsches. As someone else already said, Porsches are made for winter
as long as it's dry I will take the 360 out. I don't like letting the car sit for months on end without being moved and the fluids not getting warmed up and mixed around.
I drive mine 12 months a year (in New York). I wash it very frequently if there is a lot of salt on the road. I have summer tires so there is no way to drive when there is snow on the ground, but otherwise it's fine. Just don't turn traction control off!
