Hi all I've got a brain teaser of a problem. I've got a Ferrari 360 spider 2001 model done 80,000kms. I've got a misfire on no. 2 cylinder. I've replaced spark plugs, I've checked for spark at the coil pack, found all ok. I swaped coil packs found no difference. I checked wiring to and from the coil pack all ok. Than I've checked the injector found ok, checked the wiring to the injectors found ok. Swaped injectors still have misfire at no. 2 cylinder. With the SD2 I've got the errors Cyl 2 Major Emissions P0302, Cyl 7 Major misfire P0307, Multiple misfiring recognition P0300, Fuel self learning poor P1124, Catalytic Convertor temp Protection P1446, Catalytic convertor temp P1445. I've compression tested all cylinders and I'm getting 180 psi plus in all cylinders. I'm at the stage of pulling the Rocker covers off and checking if the hydrulic lifter is working on no. 2 cylinder. Just want to know if anyone else has had this problem on a 360 before cos I'd hate to think the lobs on the inlet cam are worn down.
If all is as you say, I would do a cylinder leak down test before you do any engine D+A. It may give you a hint as to whats going on. keep us informed with what you find, sounds like a good one.
Check the intake manifold gasket for cylinder#2. most likely the gasket was broken and causing the cylinder to go lean and misfire. very common. Best regards, Jim
I agree, smoke testing for leaks is becoming an early diagnosis tool for me. It's a quick cheap test that can eliminate or identify problems very easily.
