Good morning folks. When driving the gear suddenly skips into neutral and by touching right paddle it selects a gear so i can continue driving. I guess this can be the clutch based on readings here on the forum. The car is a 1999 Modena 360 with F1 gear. 117000km driven. I borrowed a diagnostic tool called X-431 and could read out most info from the car. I looked at the clutch PIS using this tool and it was listed as 8.1 which seems quite high(and not sure if this tools is accurate). Gearbox ECU is the first model, i guess PIS can not be adjusted by software? Now, to prepare my wallet.... Which clutch and other parts would you guys suggest to change during this operation? Or is it other checks i should do first before dive into a clutch replacement?
I looked over some images i had from the readout from the diagnostic tool. The 8.1 PIS might not be correct. The last image i found was PIS on 5.9. I had a post regarding clutch adjustment here last year: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/clutch-adjustment.682093/#post-149292014 I talked to the owner of the garage where i had the car last year and they might have done some tests regarding adjustment(even they should not do that). So it might be that they messed up something in that matter. And is there anyone that know if you can inspect and measure the thickness of the clutch without to much work?
a launch unit should not be able to read the TCM from a 99. If you can read the PIS, you may have a newer TCM, and you should be able to set it yourself.
Although if the ECU was changed the following will not be accurate..tell us your clutch position closed and clutch position closed from new Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
Closed clutch position: 19.70mm New clutch travel: 13.77mm Thats the info diagnostics gave me Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
look for another parameter called clutch position closed from new .. If that is the only one ( not sure what Autel calls it) .. then you already at 70% clutch wear if the numbers were never played with or the TCU wasn't changed 75% is usually where you start seeing some of the the issues you are referring to You can always look at TCU by removing cover behind passenger seat
The number on the TCU is 176552. Any adjustments that can be done to this regarding the clutch settings or any manual adjustments? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Would it be a good idea to Get a newer TCU version or from CS? Are they borh plug and play? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Definitely not a bad idea ..especially if you change the clutch and plan to keep the car You can contact @eric355 to give you some options Sent from my moto g power using Tapatalk
The plan i to keep the car and do maintenance work on it to Get it in top notch condition. And of course, use it. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
You can visually inspect the thickness of the clutch from under the car with the inspection port. F1 models will start to drop out of gears at 25% remaining life. Change the F1 clutch package, update the TCU, likely need to change the gearbox mount as well.
Does anyone know the thickness on a new clutch? And any reccomandations on Brand for clutch, flywheel and other parts to use? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app

Pete, it was way beyond the specified minimum wear by actual thickness of the clutch plate. I did not read clutch life before the replacement but I do remember the last reading to be 50% remaining which tells me someone dickered with it.
