Hi everyone, Intending to use this thread to document my Ferrari 360 experience. I have just purchased my first Ferrari, a 360 Modena with 6spd manual gearbox in Nero black. Here is a picture from the seller, car will be delivered to me around the 3rd week of June: Image Unavailable, Please Login I have opted for a higher mileage car with 126.000km // 78.000mls in return of full service history, damage free and original Dutch car. I wanted something for the road to replace our Porsche Cayman S with. As many opt for the overpriced GT3's at the moment, i really found joy and emotion test driving this bella and decided to go for it. Few extra's and maintenance in the papers: - Intrax suspension - Tubi style exhaust - Some CS parts (grill, glovebox plaque, odometer) - Manifolds replaced - Synchro for 2nd gear replaced - Aircon compressor replaced - Regular services Car will be delivered to me with: - Fresh timing belt service (last one is 4.000km and 3yrs ago) - Water pump renewed - Engine oil and filter and gearbox oil change - 12m warranty limited to 2.500km I noticed a few small changes to the car like the CS grill. I like the starfish wheels, but don't like the Hankook Evo S3 tires - sidewall is way too soft. Future plans: - First do a good stage 0 and renew some known-to-be-prone-to-failure parts - Check balljoints, I didnt feel any play whilst driving but didnt have the wheel up in the air to feel - Fit bucket seats as my 1.94m doesn't fit well in the seats - Find a set of 18" BBS CS wheels and fit Michelin PS4S tires - Find out what I need to do to run the car reliably on the Nordschleife - regarding brakes and cooling - If car runs well for a longer period of time, get a tune from Trevor360 By the way, my car has this plaque behind the gearbox. I haven't seen it on others - any significance in this "special edition" plaque.. what does it stand for? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Went ahead and ordered a few extra parts for my stage 0: 8x Spark plugs Champion Platinum OE122/T10 8x Ignition coils Bosch 0221504015 2x O2 sensor before Cat 0 258 007 071 2x Mass airflow sensors Magneti Marelli 213719660019 2x Fuel pump Bosch 0 580 313 051 Bosch 0 580 313 052 1x Hill engineering shift bushing I hope I got the right Bosch part number for the o2 sensor. There seem to be several ones. None of these parts are failing right now - but it seems to be a worth wile investment as I read quite some threads here about failing MAF sensors, failing o2 sensors, ignition coils robbing power and fuel pump top hats cracking.
Very nice! Welcome to the forum and congratulations. I believe the plaque is the signature of the original owner which was sold as an option?
Congratulations and Welcome. However, I did find a 'soft' error in your Future Plans and corrected it for you Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Future plans: - Get a tune from Trevor360 and modify car to meet that new level of performance. - First do a good stage 0 and renew some known-to-be-prone-to-failure parts - Check balljoints, I didnt feel any play whilst driving but didnt have the wheel up in the air to feel - Fit bucket seats as my 1.94m doesn't fit well in the seats - Find a set of 18" BBS CS wheels and fit Michelin PS4S tires - Find out what I need to do to run the car reliably on the Nordschleife - regarding brakes and cooling
Classy looking Modena there OP Solid mod list too. I would suggest adding a CS spec suspension geometry/alignment to your list. FYI the plaque on your center console is just an aftermarket item, probably from ebay. Genuine Ferrari plaques ["Dedication plates"] sit on their own angled plinths on the Modena/Spider.
Haha I will stick to my "stage 0>trev360" plan @hessank Good to know regarding the plaque. If its just a cheap ebay item, it will probably go to the bin . Good one regarding CS alignment. Im sure i can find the specs here on the forum somewhere.
Congrats! I too just bought a 2001 360, but with a manual transmission conversion. It should be delivered in the next couple of days. I too am looking to take care of some of the same preventative maintenance items you mentioned. Unfortunately with California emission rules I cannot do the CS tune. I f you can't validate that it has been done already via maintenance records, you might also consider replacing the heat exchanger. They are prone to failure in 360s and can destroy your transmission if not caught quickly, but even if you do catch it quickly, having coolant in your transmission fluid is not fun to deal with. Looking forward to reading your progress and adventures. Perhaps we can stay in touch as new 360 owners and share experiences and tips.
Gefeliciteerd, ik ken meerdere mensen bij wie de auto in hun hoofd rond spookte! In welke regio ga je met de auto rijden?
Nice! Congrats. I would opt for the 19" Challenges by the way; had them on my F430 (now on Scud wheels) and they've gotten quite expensive, but the 19" Challenge wheels in bright silver would suit this car beautifully! Cheers from Amsterdam
Thx! I am planning on the 18" due to their lightness... but lets see. I must find a set i like and honestly would first like to drive the car and get a feeling for its overall state, before upgrading stuff like wheels. Good hint regarding the heat exchanger. I should look into that. Nice to see some fellow dutchies. I live in the middle of the country - near Amersfoort. Car will probably not be driven a lot in NL. I already have the first roadtrip planned to the Nurburgring, Switzerland, Dolomites and Austria. Good first test
Congrats to you as well! Curious to stay updated on your ferrari ownership experience I think we will go through a similar stage 0 cycle
Ben echt heel blij met m’n F430, maar moet zeggen dat de lijnen van een zwarte 360 Modena echt schiiiiiitterend zijn. Echt een classic!
Alright some first parts ordered for the 360: Brake pads: Ferodo DS2500 - was looking for something that will survive mountain driving without fading. I was hoping to get a set of Endless MX72 but delivery time is 90 days from Japan. Brake fluid: Motul RBF 600 Brake lines: HEL stainless steel lines. It was quite a puzzle to find the tires I wanted, they must grip good in the dry and be able to handle damp weather in the mountain roads of Switzerland, Italy, Austria, etc. as well. I wanted Continental Sportcontact 7 but they dont go larger than 265/40/18 which is stretching it on the 10j starfish wheel. I read a lot about the tire size differences between stock (which has a rear biased ratio of +4.3%) and went for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in: 225/40/18 front and 285/40/18 rear. This introduces a rear bias of +7.6% and I hope for it not to cause ASR issues. I will also order a tool to roll the front fenders so that the tire doesn't snag behind the fender lip. The car is definitely lowered as it sits on Intrax 4-way coilovers all round. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Be interesting to see how you get on with the 4S sizes. Keep us posted! Those tyres would be ideal on the wider challenge 18s.
Beware that we F owners always try to obtain these MPS 4S tyres indeed but special coded K1 or K0 for Ferrari. (Do not buy the Michelin Super Sports tyres) I tried to obtain a pair for my 458 at MH dealer last month but they don't get these K1 versions. These tyres were specially introduced for only Mercedes, Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari for a reason. Brandnew 296 Ferrari's came last week from Maranello WITH K1 ! So they are there ! Secondly important is the DOT, the Date Of Tyre. 4 digits showing week and year of production. FI: 5323 is week 53 of 2023 I have seen deliveries of some MPS4S with DOT of 2021 and 2022. Do not buy these ! Q is now also ... when will MPS5S be introduced for us ... They are on the market since March 2023 but only in 8 sizes. and those only bfit: EV's .... Simple, that is the bigger market, sportscars is just a small market,
@Melvok thanks for sharing your insights! I have the MPS4S with * on our BMW and with N0 mark on our Porsche. Unfortunately Ferrari and Michelin don't collaborate on tires for old models, just the new ones have this specially designed thread and compound. I'm not too worried though, even generic MPS4S work great. I use around 10+ sets of tires a year due to my regular track driving with various cars. Usually i get quite fresh DOT's, max 6m old which is OK with me. Next up is deciding my alignment specs for sporty road driving. I was thinking about front camber -1.5 and rear camber -2.0. Maybe a hair of toe out in the rear and -1.5mm toe in for the front?
