    I read that the stock 360 Modena wheels could bolt right on to my 1989 348 TS. The pictures I saw made the car look great so I bought a set of the 360 Modena wheels and put them on. I found that they rub going over bumps and barely hit the front fender lip. Tires sizes are 275/40ZR18 and 215/45ZR18 The car handles so much better now but the rubbing scares me. I don't want to destroy a fender or break the inner wheel well.

    Can I machine the inside of the wheels to fit? If so how much on the front and rear?
    Should I change the tire size to correct the rubbing issue? If so what size?
    Should I just go with the stock wheels from a 355? Will they bolt right on?

    Please help. Thank you in advance,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    My friend had a set of 360 challenge wheels fitted to his 1990 348 so this must be possible.

    With regards to options;

    Personally I wouldn't machine the wheels.

    With regards to changing the tyre sizes. The sizes you mention are what is standard fitment to the 360. Interestingly the front tyres on the F355 are actually 10mm wider. They are 225's so the 360 ones are actually narrower at 215.
    Also the F355 rear tyres are 10mm narrower than the 360 at 265.

    I'd check to see exactly where the tyres are rubbing and come up with a plan from there. Some people get the arches "folded" or "rolled". This is where they are pressed together on the lip to create more room for the tyre. Personally not something I'd want to do on any of my Ferrari's but it could be an option. This can be done well if the task is entrusted to a qualified specialist.

    I'd also find out what the offset is for the 360 wheels as oposed to the original 348 wheels. This offset value tells you where the wheel sits in relation to the hub mounting. (How much of the wheel sits in front off and how much sits behind the front face of the wheel hub).

    Also consider that the early 348's did not come fitted with wheel spacers. These were added to the later cars (post 1993 if memory serves me correctly). What this means is that the original 348 wheels could in fact be moved out to increase the track and corrispondingly improve handling.

    If the wheels are "too big" and bottom out on the underside of the fender you might be able to get tyres with a lower aspect ratio. 30's instead of 45.

    Once again take a look at exactly what your issue is (where are they rubbing) and take things from there.
