    I was at Ferrari of Dallas a few weeks back taking a look around. I was visiting with the sales lady regarding the Maserati, and she told me that the Mas has "the exact same motor" as the Ferrari 360. That doesn't quite sound right. Can anyone confirm or deny?

    That's BS, the Maser was a clean sheet design at the time.

    She's not far off though, the new 430 motor is based on the Maser block......

    360=Maser=no

    While the 430 motor is about the same size as the Maser, they too are diff. motors.

    They maybe same block? Is it a matching part number? For sure the topends are totaly diff.

    In the same way that the motor in the F40 is the same as the one in my 208! ;)

    But you're right, the Maser and 430 have the same bore centre spacing, and I think both have 4 valves per cyl instead of 5? But I think the crank and cams/heads are different. I don't know if the internal oilways and water passages are the same in both engines?

    WOW! Mention Maser around here and ......BAM! you're OT! LOL!

    Anyway I was wrong........CORRECTION!

    It was considered to use the Maser in the 430 but that is NOT the case!

    The design team ( same as the one for the Maser engine) generated a clean sheet design AGAIN for the 430. No parts in common at all.

    The article pointed out the different performance requirements and noted that Masers have 90 degree cranks for torque while Ferraris still have 180 degree cranks for top end performance........

    Other Italian???????? LOL!

    I hope Husker finds this.....:rolleyes:

    Anyone know why this thread was moved? I thought it was a pertinent discussion for the General Ferrari forum, as it generated a number of responses very quickly. Why the move?

    LOL! Love it!

    I'm glad I reread the article, 'cuz I had it wrong in my mind, from the first read!

    The crank config part was telling! Of course they all come from the same design department now...

    :( so sad that the Maserati "Specialist" always seems to be a revolving door at most locations. Everytime I go to a dealer meeting I end up introducing myself to at least five or six new salespeople.
