    i have just got the 360F1. I am changing the oil today on the vahicle. How many qts of oil is required and how does one check the level. Does the car need to be started and then turned off to get the reading on the dip stick? Really concerned about the problems associated with excessive oil in the engine. What are the symtoms, can it damage the motor?
    PLease let me know---No dealers here who can help either. Thanks

    Changing oil on the 360

    Oil & Filter
    Shell HELIX ULTRA 5W-40 11.45 litres (DRY) note: Refilling requires about 10 litres.
    PURFLUX LS 925 Oil filter

    The amount of oil to be added may vary slightly from the amount used when engine is completely dry. This is normal and its cause is unavoidable build-up inside the system. Gradually re-fill the system, in accordance with the dipstick reference marks.

    Before starting check the oil level;

    Checking the oil level
    • Start engine and run it at around 4500 min–1 until reaching a temperature of 80÷90 °C.
    • Keep the engine idling.
    • Slide out the retainer clip and unscrew the oil cap (located on the gearbox housing), and check the level: it must be between the MIN and MAX notches engraved on the dipstick.

    Removing old oil

    Its recommended for access to remove the undertray completely.

    • Remove undertray
    • Remove oil filler cap
    • Remove the 2 hex nuts (see illustrations, numbers 1 & 2) and allow all oil to come out (be patient and wait for it all!)
    • Remove oil filter & replace

    So as to allow the oil backed up in the pipes and in the cooling system radiator to drain out,
    then;

    • Detach the union (3) on the pipe delivering oil to the radiator and deliver compressed air to the hose.
    • Remove and clean the mesh filter.
    It is found on the right-hand side of the gearbox housing, underneath the differential attachment flange. (4 & 5)

    Good luck!

    I've got a service manual and haven't looked but isn't there a torque spec for the filter? As I recall it is pretty high and if not torqued properly the filter can blow off or leak.

    It might be a little after the fact, but I put together a small reference PDF from the owner's manual and workshop manual that covers the high points of doing an oil change on the 360. I'll leave it on-line at the following URL for a while in case anyone wants to snag a copy.

    Enjoy.

    Sounds like you may have overfilled it. Check the level and drain if necessary.

    fmomen,

    Several of the things that happens from an overfilled 360 motor is you may get oil sucked into the intake, which settles down in the throttlebody housing area (the two red covers on the top of the engine), which might explain the white smoke on start up, also fouls up your spark plugs and cause carbon build up on the throttle body and intake runners, and leaves oily film on the mass air flow sensor which could cause the engine to run lean. Depending on how badly your engine is overfilled...

    I am dealing with the same issues right now on my 360, at least I don't have white smoke on start up.

    fmomen,

    I just used a small hand pump (can get those at your local auto parts store) and transfered some oil from the oil reservoir which the engine is running. No need to drain it from the bottom, too much work.

    You should change your oil once a year or every 4k 5k miles, this according to the service manual and dealer. If you track the car you should change the oil after every other event.

    Hi

    do you mind showing me in a picture of describing where is the oil reservoir? Is it the silver cap between the 2 red rectangles?

    Does anyone know how to remove the mesh filter. I opened the two nuts, but I can't pull out the mesh filter. Is there a particular way to pull the filter out?

    Reference for anyone else so they don't go running all over town trying to find the right size, the hex sockets you need are 12mm and 14mm.

    Ha, I just called around yesterday for the 12 + 14mm hex sockets. Autozone, Advance Auto, NAPA, Pepboys, no one had them. Harbor Freight did of course though, in a 10 piece set for something like $13. Worked like a charm.

    My Autozone had a kit that had 12mm, 14mm and 17mm for $10.
