360 or 512TR? which one would you choose? (yes, ANOTHER one of those threads)

For me it'd be the 360. I like to drive the Ferrari everyday as long as weather permits and the 360 has proven to be reliable, not to mention things are just more prone to go wrong in a 15+ year old car vs. 8 year old car.

If it was something to just stick in the car garage, probably the 512TR, value is more likely to go up and the car itself has a timeless design.

Its got the expected Ferrari exotic top of the line look.

The boxer 12 motor.

Lower roof line and much wider look.

It wont depreciate at the rate the 360 will.

You wont be confused with a poseur, if you care about that.

I had a Testarossa and I didn't trade it in for a 360, the 360 wasn't worthy enough as to replace my TR for the money. Another reason is that the 360 was a car that I wasn't going to take to the track, I didn't care that it was faster. Only bought the 360 so I had another Ferrari to my name so I could be able to buy new Ferraris at sticker price.

 

My Testarossa was my daily driver for three years and drove it close to 40,000 miles. The Testarossa was more reliable than the 360 I had for less than a year and drove just 5,000 miles. This might not be the normal case, but it was mine.

 

the 12 would be my choice but i worry about your comments about being able to afford either...the 12 could eat you alive! i say that having spent many dollars on my 12. would not trade it for anything however!!!

On the other hand, a 1995 512TR with the Motronic 2.7 is a pretty slick car! But the TR's prior to 1994/95 have weak differentials...and all TR's have 12 cylinders to maintain. Gotta pull the engine for the belt changes, too (and A/C lines through the fuel tanks?!).

Not so with the 360, plus fewer cylinders to maintain.

It's human nature to expect more problems with the older car than with the newer car, but this is slightly mitigated by the TR not having a lot of extras such as power steering, electronic-adjustable shocks, air bags, electric seats, F1 transmission/hydraulics, etc.

Italian cars with fewer parts often do better than newer Italian cars that come "loaded."

But there's still no real getting around the engine out service for the TR major versus the engine-in service for the 360 (or the 50% difference in the number of cylinders!).

So if you want the looks of the TR's strakes/grills and the TR's stripped race-like purity with no power steering/air-bags/electric seats/shocks and no F1 but with 50% fewer cylinders like the 360, then that takes you to the 348 (highly recommended!).

512TR, no question.

 

The TR's with no power steering make for brute's in city driving. The 360 is so docile in contrast, that would be the better city driver. Once the TR is at speed it's beautiful. I'd say drive them both, form an opinion for what is going to better suit you.

 

512TR, it seems much more rare & Unique than a 360.

Plus you got to love the sound of a well tuned boxer engine.

Depends, if wanting to drive daily(When weather permits of course) I would take the 360 Manual. If just a weekend ride and want that classic F-Car experience I would take the 512. Just my 1.5 cents
