360- P.S.A- (public service announcement)

Diagnosed a "belt" squeak on a customers 03 360 Modena. Only 2000 miles. Had just had belt service performed by a dealer. Thought the noise was a loose drive belt or tentioner...turned out to be the hydraulic damper for the t-belt! When the engine was first started , the belt would be loose untill the damper "bounced" a couple times. It would then hold tention as it was running. You could see belt material slung around under the covers- This guy dodged the bullet!

Keep your timing belts in-check folks!!!!

Just adding my .o2cents to the Timing belt ...uhh.. "controversy" ...

 

Hard to say- maybe faulty original part, mabe it sat too long, maybe the tech who replaced the belts did something wrong- Very difficult to pinpoint. Also- The gap between the tentioner assembly and the damper was not the proper spec- dont know if this was the cause or not....
