360 Parking Lights...

So I was driving the 2001 360 Modena yesterday around dusk, turned on the parking lights only using the small circular button on the center console, the parking lights lit up outside, but no dash lights... I cant remember if dash lights are suppose to illuminate also??? When I turn off with same button and then turn on my parking lights/headlights at the steering stalk the dash lights illuminate normally. Is this right?

 

Great! I did read the manual but it did not elude to the fact the dash lights would light up with the outside lights. I could have sworn I used the parking light center console switch before and the dash lights lit up too.
