I have a 99 360 coupe and noticed the side panels in the engine bay does not have the rain gutters. I was wondering if it is possible to add the rain gutters to the existing panels, or do I have to buy new panels with the holes already in place? Thanks, Alex
Per Brain C You have an early model where the rain gutters were not available. If you drive your car in the rain, the rain gutters will keep water out of the engine and prevent steam in the engine bay. Steam on the rear window won't allow you to see, obviously. After complaints, Ferrari made the rain gutters on later cars. Live with them...if you don't plan on driving in the rain. New ones are expensive. Mario
Well I use the car a lot and I've used it in the rain. Looks like I'll be buying new ones. I'm still waiting for pricing... Does anyone know how much the carbon fiber ones cost? I would probably go with those in case the price of the stock ones are similar. Thanks for the response!
Dan, If you don't use your car in the rain, then I don't think it will really matter. I use my car in the rain and would like to make sure I avoid the rears from fogging. I am still waiting for some people to give me prices on the panels with rain gutters... I would appreciate it if anyone can help me locate reasonably priced panels w/ rain gutters. Thanks, Alex
Alex, We're making these "Engine Bay Panels" for both Spider and Coupe. Our first production set will be finishing soon, at which point we'll be able to provide photos. The price for the four-piece kit is $2750 USD. I know you're looking mainly for a functional improvement, which any CF manufacturer of this part will provide, but ours will have the nicest finish and appearance, as well as superb heat and UV resistant properties. All of our products are engineered and extensively tested to ensure that they will last many years without warpage, discoloration, etc. Let us know if we can fabricate a set for you. I did not realize that the windows would fog up that way! Seems that would be a safety issue, maybe it should be fixed for free? I should change mine as well, although I do not drive normaly in the rain, you never know.
Alex, if you will consider OE, call around a few dealers or SVAG. Many of them have used sets that are take offs from people that bought CF panels. Make sure the left panel is for the correct year car though because it is the side that has the emission sticker on it and a 2000- up panel will list air injection (that you don't have) and can cause you some trouble when getting a smog.
Not being able to see out the back window is not a safety issue. Several types of vehicles don't even have a back window. You should be happy Ferrari addressed it at all.
Brian, Thanks for the tip. I'm actually waiting for a quote from FoSV. I'll try SVAG today. Thanks, Alex
You tell 'em!! What's behind you don't matter AT ALL! You guys carry the Front Defroster Kit for the old GTBs, it's called a shop rag..... I suppose if you're backing out at Starbuck's..it would matter......
We've molded a few pairs of the large pieces, and the first whole 4 piece carbon fibre kit will be ready in approx. 2-3 weeks. We'll certainly post pics here when they are done. One reason for the relatively slow progress is that we've been focusing more on F430 drip panels for the last couple weeks, since we have a customer's panels in hand and need to return carbon ones to him ASAP. BTW, I've been told that F430 drip panels will fit in a 360. Can anyone verify this?
