    Hello

My first DIY oil change. Everything went according to plan until i stripped the threads on the oil plug. I was aware it should not be torqued to spec. Most likely likely a disaster waiting to happen as I noticed some oil sweating at the plug before I started the work.

Anyway, not the end of the world. I will order a new uprated Hill Engineering oil plug cover tomorrow and keep on wrenching.

So to the question: what kind of sealant should I use between the new cover and the gearbox? No seal as I can see from parts drawing. What kind of heat should the sealant be able to withstand? Any suggestions?

Install a helicoil. Ferrari used to do it on many models. Stronger than aluminum threads.

For what it is worth after 40+ years working on Ferrari I have never used a torque wrench on a drain plug. Use new copper washer and tighten just until the copper yields.

Do what Rifledriver says. Install a helicoil of the appropriate size rather than buying a new cover. Same cover in place but with a helicoil.
Having to install a helicoil every now when when dealing with aluminum is a given. Same with having to remove and replace a spinning jack screw.
