360 service question

Ferrari recently changed the guidelines to state a 30k major every 30k miles or 3 years. The major should include belts,pulleys,blah,blah,blah,fluids and so on. Cost, most stealerships charge $125 hour labor, this should put you around $3500-$4000 for the job.
By the way, the old guidelines were 5 years, I don't think the car will impload if you go a little beyond.

Most major fluids are every 2 years and oil change every year. FYI.

I would tell you where to go if you were in LA but in looks like you are in Jersey. I also have an '04 360 f1 Spider. Following the advice of my trusted non-dealer Ferrari approved shop run by a former Ferrari racer, I got my 3 year major service done with 6600 miles on the car. I spent $4,500 on my service including installation of BMC air filters.

 

Incorrect. You do not need a major or 30K service. The timing drive belt service is due at (3) yrs. or 30,000 miles whichever occurs first. The (5) yr. guide-line was changed approx. 3 yrs. ago. Along with the belt service, an 'annual' is typically performed which addreses all other items applicable to your mileage. Refer to your Warranty and Owner's Service Book.

 

I'm with you, altough I think it's nonsense to change the belts on my CS after 3 years with only 9.5K miles, I'm inclined to do it because I confess to being brainwashed by all the bible thumping wisdom advocating "yes, sir, every 3 years". If the belt work has to include tensioners, bump up the price by 1.5 times. And when I suggested I'd wait several months, maybe a year to get the "major" done, the reply was, it's relatively inexpensive stuff compared to the belts, so get it done at the same time. A rough quote for the whole shebang, up here in Canuck land, including the tensioners is between $7-8K Cdn = $5.5-6.5K US.

The same week as I take in the CS, I'll be taking my 2005 Honda CVR in for its major service. They've kindly prepared me in advance for the cost. I have to bring along $400.

What can I say: we choose our own stupidity.

 

Engine Oil/Filter = At least every 12 months
Brake and Clutch Fluid = At least every 12 months
Gearbox and Differential = At least every 2 years

What he said with one exception. 3yrs for belt changes have been policy since 360 #1 rolled off the line in 99.

 

Jeez. Ship it to FoSF, where the job is about $1500. At least according to two owners I have talked to who had it done there.

Sorry but FSF is not doing belts, tensioners and a full chassis service for $1500. No where close. Chassis service alone will be about that.

Fluids, also used almost interchangably with the 5k service. That and the belts are what that car needs and that service without the belts is 14-15 hundred at the dealer.

 

Complete fluid service at FOW was $850 for me.

My belt service w/tensioner was about $2k. Oil change about $425. (This was at an authorized dealer)

 

Oil change and chassis service are 2 different things. Also Nor Cal prices almost always higher.

I am relating what others charge, not looking to justify anything.

 

These were just 2 of the prices I could remember for my last service.

 

i bought my 360 with 8600 miles with no belt service. just did belts only, at 10,500. tensioners are good at this time. i own a independent garage & work on mainly grocery getters. we do t-belts all day long, so i was not scared to perform service myself. point is that the car at around 6 years old & 10,000 miles the belts looked good. i was as confused as everybody else at when this service should be done. granted my tundra does not do the rpms & speeds, but belt service every 2-3 years seems a little over board.

 

You won't hear any any arguments here, however, I for one am not willing to throw the dice.

 

I recently had the 3 year belt change on my CS and what was found included a bad tensioner. While the service interval seems excessive, it is better than a catastrophic failure. The cost to play is high but at least it is fun.
