I really like 360's but I am tempted to wait a bit more for the 430's to come down a little more in price. The 360 is a great car but with all the other costs of exotic car ownership, I'm not sure I want that relatively expensive belt job hanging over my head every 3 years. What are you guys paying for 360 timing belt jobs in this area? What about the regular annual services? I'd consider any competent shop in this region. I figured this is a better place to ask versus the 360/430 forum which has opinions of people who live in such diverse areas.

I'll help you out here before you get slammed with 'using the search function' reply. The belt changes are not that big of a deal. They can run between $1.5-3.5k+ depending on who does it and if you get hosed in the process; they might see you coming. Sounds pessimistic but its the truth. The full services are where your wallet gets thinner, the belt jobs aren't as bad. Labor rates also vary depending on the shop. I did an incredible amount of research before buying my car. In the end I bought the 430 due to the refined F-1 system. If your going the manual 6 speed route its much different. I basically became a 360 knowledge shark before buying my car. If the 430 is near your budget I would wait. It only took one drive for me to make the decision that much easier. So my advice is to hold out on the temptation a little bit longer.

    Sounds like 2 sepearate issues/questions-
    (1) 360 vs. 430- if you want the extra power of the 430 and have the extra money that is a reason to get it. From a financial standpoint the 360 makes more sense if you like the looks better and 400HP in a 3,000 pound car is fast enough for you- the additional outlay of money isn't worht it in that case as the 430 has more to depreciate from a dollar basis and the difference in purchase price vs. doing the belts every 3-4 years has something like a 30-40 year break even (ignoring time value of money). Get what you want, but not because you think you are "saving lots of money" buying a 430. See the 360/430 section as there have recently been some discussion on this in recent threads...

    (2) We are fortunate to have some excellent independent ferrari specialists in the area that are reasonable. Areana motors, New Vernon Coach, there is a shop w/good reputation in Pocono area (they flat bed the car up there), and Brandon (a sponsor of this section of F-chat) and my mechanic Vinny at Auto Elite who is awesome (he's in Ft. Lee). For my 360 the annual fluid changes is about $1K, and new timing belts maybe $2-3K don't know as I haven't had to do them yet.. I intend to do them every 4 years or so.

My opinion is: I think if you could find a 360 that is what you want I'd buy that if you like both the 360 & 430- drive it for a couple of years and then get a 430 if you still want a 430. I can practically guarantee you won't get a 360 and be kicking yourself for not waiting another year or two to get a 430- a 360 won't leave you disappointed! You may want a stick in 360 though at the F1 is more refined in the 430.

For me once I made the decision to buy I started looking and did it. I could have waited another year or so to get a spider instead of a coupe, but after having a guy at work die at the age of 50 after falling down a flight of stairs and being in the mess that was 9/11 (I used to work in downtown Manhatthan), well let's say I enjoy living life for today (within reason of course) :)
