If you think having an optional space saver spare for the 360 sports car but not for the 456 gran tourismo makes no sense, well, you're right. Fortunately, the 360 space saver will work on the 456, so I snagged one (I probably shouldn't tell you I got it for free, but lets just say that there are interesting things laying around Ferrari shops, and it helps to let them know about things you are looking for :D ).

Here's a pic by my car, which has 18" Barchetta wheels on it, with a stock 17" wheel there for comparison. The Barchetta wheels look killer, but the 17's are much smoother, so for epic trips, I'll use those and take the space saver and a tire change kit.*

Diameter wise, the space saver is a very little bit smaller than the regular tires, so I may get an error light if I have to use it, but that's way better than being stranded, IMHO.

    * I think the scissor jack that came with my RAM pickup will be perfect for that.

    Cheers,

    George

    OK. :)

It's not pretty, and it is tight, but it does barely squeak in there.

I love the way you think, Mark. We should get together and slaughter some beers. :)

I too would like to see a pic of the spare under the trunk deck. The owner's manual actually mentions and even illustrates a space saver for the 456, so maybe it was an option in Europe, or something. There's an illustration of it wedged in as I photographed it, and also under the floor, but I think that could only work with manuals, and not the GTA.

    Cheers,

    George

Here's the thread on my spare tire kit:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372763

George and I had joked about it there. Just had to get him back.

And, I think you're correct. The Auto doesn't have the room; it fits perfect in the manual.

Sorry, I don't have a pic handy, but will get one some time. Not only does the tire fit, the other stuff does too. With a scissor- jack, that would probable fit too.

See ya in SA some day George. My best friend that I grew up with is the Military writer for the SAEN and I get there often.

    Regards.....Mark in Houston.....

My Aus 456GT came from England and it has the space saver spare in the boot well which also fits the jack under it plus other small things also. Very neat fit.
