I realise you have already completed the job, but for future reference the easiest way to do it is to lay on the engine. I know it sounds crazy, but cover the engine with a mechanics mat (the thick foam stuff), using a stool if you need it and lift yourself using the A Frame onto the engine. This makes it a lot easier to access all those 'hard to reach' areas. It also makes doing the job a lot quicker because you don't have to twist and turn your arm to awkward spaces. And for those who worry about their weight on the engine, as long as you spread it evenly across everything you lay on it will be fine, trust me, work for a specialist and weigh...well a lot! Just remember to use a mat or something to lay on, it's not as comfortable as your mattress!!!

I tried the laying on the engine routine with a blanket down and it was exceedingly uncomfortable for me. Using a step stool and going at it from the side was a bit of a stretch, but worked. Thanks for the insight. It's much appreciated!

Now, I need to figure out how to drain the gearbox and clean the filter without having to take half the car apart! :)

Check out the DIY Sticky thread - there's a post there about cutting a hole in the side/floor and re-finishing with a removable rubber bung. I have sourced a suitable bung myself and intend doing this winter maintenance.

He IS right. Those drawings show two entirely different types of spark plugs and two entirely different ways of installing them without using a torque wrench.

Look at the two different plugs and you can see that the drawings are NOT the same; one is for washer-less "cone type" plugs and the other is for plugs with washers. Use one procedure or the other (depending on which plug you use of course) but NOT both.

    Gotcha! Thanks.

    I may have over-tightened by 1/16th so! :D

From recollection though I bottled out before I got to 180 degrees - just didn't feel completely right.
