okay i have read tons of stuff so far about the normal 1st to second cold shift....i own a 348 spider myself so i get it. and actually love its idiosynchrosies

but a friend of mine not on Fchat has a 360 spider. i drove it for an hour to warm it up to see if she was nuts about the shifting. yes cold shift is stiff but after the car is fully up to temp it still has an issue.

when at a complete stop it is harder to get into 1st then it is to get oprah to quit eating ice cream! if you go to 3rd or reverse or 5th first i twill sometimes slide into 1st no problem. from 2 to 1 not likely
upshift is normal from 1 to 2 with a synchro matching rev it shifts like butter! from 3 to 2 down no worries.

soooo i'm asking my 360 big brothers for some thought before the 400 mile jaunt to the dealer.

    Thanks guys

First thing. Do you have wiggle side to side in the shifter. Sit in the car, wiggle shifter left-right. Any play? More play= more shift anomalies...that shift shaft should be TIGHT no wiggle side to side in center/neutral position. If you seen how tight the tolerance is in those shift cables, you would be able to visualize the issues once even a LITTLE play develops...

That bushing in there that holds the shifters geometry will crack, break, fail/

so, if you have wiggle start with the $85 fix....

Report back after you fix it, Hopefully you will be another success story ;)

Can you shift to 1st easily when the engine is not running?

+1 on the shifter bushing. We all assume the transmission oil has been changed regularly, but if it hasn't, that's the next thing to do to try to cure this. The design of the engine/transmission gets the oil hot regularly, and heat is the enemy of all oils, causing them to break down so they can no longer do their job.

the car has 5000 miles. will check the wiggle issue! and with the engine off. like i said if you slide it to 3rd or 5th it will then go right to 1st

Miles irrelevant. That original Ferrari junk plastic bushing can and will fail at any mileage. Low miles, high miles etc... its Junk brittle plastic that tries to absorb the pressures of a shifter, shifting, 15 times its size...

Doesn't look like it as the part reference on the Ricambi piece shows 430/360.

Now thats some funny chit ;)

Wont be long I imagine until we see many 430's exibiting this same issue as the 360's.. Good thing is its a cheap fix with HUGE results.

Nowhere near as many as you'd expect, given the number of cars produced. Maybe 75x or so ?
