360 Spider Roof Help - Qavion Are You Out There?

I have been chasing a very specific issue on my top. I currently have it at a local specialist who has done a full alignment and replaced all the elastics. Cylinders are all good, so we are down to one last issue which seems to be electrical, but we are having a difficult time chasing it down.

The issue is this - when closing the top everything works fine but it won't finish the cycle when the tonneau cover is closed. The pump will just keep running and the dash light stays on. If you release and then re-engage the switch it will finish the cycle and everything is fine. Similarly when going back up it again gets to the point when the cover is fully closed (top is still half closed) and will stop. Toggle the switch and closes fine.

The obvious would be tonneau closed micro swtich, but that seems to fine. Could it be the ECU? Thoughts?

Yes - I regularly turn the battery switch off and have disconnected the battery a few times as well. If there is another way to reset that I am not thinking of please let me know. I was thinking if it is a possible ECU issue I would get a used one and swap it...but that is a pricey "try it" option.

 

If it is a microswitch issue I assume it will most likely be one of the four (?) around the back lid? That seems to be the area since it stops working in either direction once the cover hits its closed position. Thinking 12-14 on this diagram?

For sure - that’s the plan. Just thinking about starting in the most likely place first

Update - frustratingly still chasing down this issue. We were unable to find any faults running back the solenoids. I have gone so far as getting a replacement ECU - unsurprisingly made no difference. Actually if anything it had gotten a little worse prior to trying the ECU swap. To recap - fluid is full, new elastics through entire top and alignment completed. On the down movement it will now get to the lid closing motion and stop - that is as far as it will go (before the lid would close but still give the top moving warning on the dash). When I let go of the switch I can whoosh of pressure releasing - like one of the solenoids is holding pressure. Going back up it will stop at the half-folded position, and again letting of the switch is followed by a noise of pressure releasing. Rocking the switch will get back in the closed position, but the dash light will stay on. If I turn the battery switch off and back on it clears the error.

Not sure what to try next...

 

Sorry if that wasn’t clear…I don’t have a scan tool that can pull that level of detail. Car was at a top specialist for a week and they told me they did a full scan and couldn’t find any faults. I wasn’t there - just taking them for their word. If you can recommend a good tool I will take a look at doing more diagnostic myself. I see you had mentioned the AP200 but the reviews online seem a little spotty? Is there something better? Thanks again…

 

Totally understand - thanks for jumping in! Let me clarify:

Opening:
Previously: top would cycle fully but after the rear lid closed the pump would keep running and the dash light would stay on. If I rocked the switch briefly between open and close it would finish. Also if I turned the car off the light would clear. Now: top goes until the lid close motion and stops. Won’t do anything more with open top cycle even if I move the switch between close and open.
Closing:
Top will get to the half closed position and stop. When I release the switch I can hear pressure release from the solenoid. When I re-engage the switch to the close position it will close but the light on the dash stays on. If I turn the car off and back on it clears the dash light.

I did...just came in from running a few cycles. I ran live data for two full cycles but I am not seeing anything jump out on the data...but I also don't really know what I am looking for. A scan of the capote module gives me the following. Low battery is a stored fault - battery is almost knew and was fully charged. The speed sensor is because I drove it home with the dash light still on from the top repair place. The other two codes I don't know - love "Unknown Trouble Code" - that is very helpful!
