Hi, I have searched but not found anything about what other services should be done while I have the top removed to replace the gas tank valves due to a gas smell in the car. It is a 2002 spider F1 with 6k miles. Major service done a year ago but now that the top has to come off I am interested in maximizing all other service issues so I don't have to take the top off agaon anytime soon. Thanks for the information Steve

That's about the only thing.... access to the gas tanks. What's the quote from your shop for this repair?

If the valves fail will the car throw a CEL?

Don't think it matters, but the spider top assembly needs to come out for engine/tranny removal. And for some reason the retractable seatbelt thingy too. (Stupid!)

Believe it or not I don't know how to do the personal info..., but the top removal is 2000$ to get the valves replaced, it is an F1 so I am looking to maximize the work done while the top is off. CEL never went on but the smell of gas was pretty intense before I put it away this fall. Stew, Email for me is [email protected] ....appreciate the responses and the help.....steve

Interesting....I was ready to have the top taken off for the gas smell and today learned that this was a 'gascap' crack. I sure did not see this but it was checked at FOW and Rob indicated that this is the answer and no need to take the top off, saved 20 hours of labor...wahoooo
