I received a 2001 360 spider 2 months ago and the top went up and down just fine. Now after 2 months and 3k miles the top is sluggish and stops 1/2 way open or closed and you have to let go of the button for 5 seconds and push it again to get it to finish the job. What gives boys????

  2. Would recommend checking the hydraulic fluid level. It it is low, you might get this kind of problems.

Actually, it's still less than 3% of the population if you are talking annual income. If you are talking net worth then we are up to a staggering 5%.

I have a 2001 spider and the same thing happened to me. Turned out to be a slow leak of the fluid mentioned above. Topping it up once a year fixes it, but apparently the pump needs to be replaced long term.

Open the engine bay lid and check for hydraulic leaks around the two rams visible half-way up the engine covers. These are another old favorite for sprouting oil, wierdly, the right-hand one seems to suffer more....

Can someone post the type of fluid needed (e.g. brand, viscosity, etc.) and where to buy it (auto parts store?). I will check my manual, but also if someone replies can they indicate where the fluid container is located. My 360 spider top hesitates half way through sometimes. Thanks.

The procedure for filling is also in that thread.

Check also that nothing is rubbing or obstructing the roof operation. For example, are the rams rubbing the side covers in the engine bay? Also, there are two microswitches under the driver side winglet that control the operation of the roof. Make sure they aren't obstructed or that the winglets themselves aren't stuck under the side bodywork.

Fluid recommended by our local dealership is Pentosin CHF IIS.

We have had many customers with this issue and had ranged from the folloowing problems: very low hydraulic fluid; lack of lubrication on top's mechanism; one of the microswitch not working properly causing the top to loose the opening/close sequence; bad relay and/or the need to be re-trained using the SD2.

Ok sorry guys......I get your point! I guess everyone here owns 26 large multifamily buildings like me and gets paid $1.4M a year tax free! (can you say passive income)

    I love real estate

There is even less of us megamillionaires (net worth > $10M).....< .5% in the US

As it turns out.....there was only a 1/2 inch of hydrolic fluid left.....we filled it with (mercedes ZH-M fluid) and the top works perfect. Can't find the leak though.

That is because you are not subscribed. Be careful with that ego on this board, there are more than a few of us out here that can but smile at the fact you consider yourself wealthy. :):)

No, you get 5mb before hitting the wall on pics, most likely due to file size.... it has to be 640 x 640 or less to upload...

But very few here brag about income, except me.......

Homeless........broke..........dome tent, over by the railroad tracks....

Three Ferraris, as seen in Cavallino, New York Times, Houston Chronicle......

    *yawn.......scratching*

You'd better find the leak brudda, as that hydraulic fluid will cause paint damage and it's non too kind on leather or poly rugs either!

    HTH!

When you're REALLY wealthy....you don't need to prove it to anyone.

When you're REALLY wealthy, when you flaunt it....you feel like you publically jerked-off and you feel immature & embarrassed.

When you're REALLY wealthy, you quickly get past the blatant materialistic things like fancy watches, big jewelry, expensive clothes and other things that entirely serve to advertise that you have a few bucks. That kind of pretenciousness is for possuers, wannabee and rappers....or little kids whose Daddy just bought a Ferrari and they wanna play ball with the big boys. Course, you're an exception to the rule ;)

Few people realize the hydraulic fluid also serves to lubricate the system and a slow loss is normal. You'll want to use ZH-M fluid, you can get it at any Mercedes dealership. Start by checking your reservior, most likely it's low. I was able to get more fluid into the reservior without removing much anything....you'll just need to get clever with an allen-wrench, park the car slanted on a curb and use a line to feed fluid into the reservior. If you have any problems, just go BUY a Ferrari dealership and shake down the mechanics.

    Bling on Brudda! :)

Seems to me that money has two main purposes.

    1. Buy things like food, medical care, kids' education, 360's, first class air, neat vacations, and

    2. earn more money

Of the two, number 2 is the most important and the best (it is like having an employee who requires no salary or benefits and turns over his total paycheck to you). The catch is: small amounts of money don;t earn enough to make a difference. If you have 1 mil might as well buy a nice house and some toys; if you have 7 mil it should be working for you. At a reasonably young age, 7 mil will earn enough to be your retirement contribution and your kids tuition and maybe an estate.

When someone says that they are rich and then lists the things that they coud buy or do buy I think that they are stuck at stage one - not enough money for its earnings to matter. If you have enough that each mil is an employee that turns over 70K or so to you each and every year, well that toy seems less important in defining who you are.

I have no idea what wealthy means, I do know I will never get there, just too lazy and like doing things other than earning money :D, but.... one day I went to my Ferrari mechanic's shop, trying to schedule an appointment for an oil change, and I see a trailer with an Enzo and a challenge 360 in it. I ask him who owns it, at that moment a Lear Jet takes off behind us. He points to the jet and says that guy owns it. He flew in to take a few laps around Laguna Seca while the jet took his wife to LA to shop. The jet flew back to pick him up so he could have dinner with her in LA. The mechanic shakes his head in disbelief and says now that is wealth :)

Wealthy, Jeff, is understanding what money can do for you and finally realizing that all that really matters is that it buys back some of your time to enjoy as you wish. That is all "wealth" really does for you. It really matters not how many zeros are attached after the first few none zero digits prior to the decimal point.

    Cheers. :)
