I’m prototyping a replica 360 steering wheel airbag module I’ll be putting in my 355.

My original plan was to remove the cavallino emblem from the 355 airbag and place on the 360 wheel, however this isn't going to happen as the emblem doesn't seem to be removable from the airbag cover. It's secured in the center with something maybe a screw. Anyway I looked all over the web for a replacement steering wheel emblem and no luck, probably because they only come on the airbag. I've also discovered that the new road wheel center caps part #226245 look identical to the steering wheel emblem except for the portion that goes into the rim wich I can remove with a little work. I don't like the idea of having to buy all four at $130 just to use one cap, although this may be what I end up doing.

So my question to you guys; should I stick with the original looking steering wheel center emblem or is there a better idea? Maybe just a cavallino in the center? Then again I already have a cavallino on my sub enclosure, don’t want to over do it.

Here a couple pics just to give you an idea, it will be made out of fiberglass and covered in leather looking just like the 360 airbag without the $2k ferrari tax or airbag.

My first idea was also a center cap of the wheel or maybe you can press a cavalino on the leather.

That's an interesting idea to press the cavallino in the leather, kinda like my headrest. I wonder how well the imprint would last... I wonder how it is done.. steam maybe?

If looking as close to OEM is your goal, I would say use a yellow wheel center cap. That's what I ended up using with the '94 non-airbag steering wheel I got. I bought the wheel from a friend, but it came without the center cap. It was also recovered in Alcantara when I got it, but I have been thinking about restoring it to the original leather.

I ended up buying a set of brand new wheel center caps from Ricambi, and it fitted perfectly into the hole in the center of the steering wheel. The center cap of the original airbag steering wheel is actually larger than the wheel center cap. I can't recall the exact measurements, but it won't matter in your case I believe.

You could look into eBay as there are some used ones in good condition in there, and even single pieces as well.

    Hope this helps.

I think I've got several center caps lying around. If you want, I will check and see if I can find them. I'd be happy to send you one if possible.

I really appreciate the offer but I finally located and bought a brand new wheel center cap that seems to match the steering wheel emblem perfectly. Got it for about $35 shipped.

I thought about going with nothing in the center and decided it just wouldn’t look right.

My plan is to attach it from the rear just like the airbag unit. When I get further along I will post up some pics of it.

Looking good - hope you don't get blasted like I did for deleting the airbag...
