Yes, I searched the archives ad nauseum. Got my first speeder ever in my stradale [78 in a 55] with a Calibre blue tooth radar detector; front and rear detectors installed behind the metal air intake grills in front [one detector on the right and one detector on the left ]. Rear detector on rear defuser . Also had their laser jammer on. It was sub contracted out through a VERY Reputable Ferrari shop in N.J.The Radar detector never went on! Laser got me!

Is this just a very poor detector in spite of its high price or just mounted wrong [behind the METAL grills low down in front].
Everyone talks about the Valentine 1 mounted high on the windshield.

I know similar posts are around but thought this was a different problem.

Any recommendations for a great dector [front and rear] installed by a GREAT shop on L.I., N.Y.?

There's a reason why everyone talks about the Valentine 1 mounted high on the windshield - it works better than any other detector, mounted anywhere else on/in the car.

the laser jammers CANNOT be mounted behind the mesh... It just wont work! I have a Blinder Jammer installed in my mercedes ML in the front bumper and I cut the mesh around the laser jammer heads. i know this is probably not what you want to do but they need to be totally level and have a 100% clear unobstructed view of the road ahead. My jammer has saved me about 15 tickets and I get a kick out of speeding up just a bit when smokey sits out there on I-75 by my house... The jammer goes crazy and the cop just sits there staring at his laser gun.

Also in addition I have a Valentine one on the windshield. Bar none the best radar/laser unit out there. Valentine is in Cincinnati, and I have met Mike Valentine several times. Very interesting guy! (oh yeah and he also has quite a nice car collection including a Carrera GT, etc...)

I'm sure I know the answer to this already, but "highly illegal" comes to mind.... am I correct in this asumption?
If so, what's the penalty if you DO get pulled over and the cop sees the device mounted in your car?

Protection against laser is hit or miss (pardon the pun), but the V1 probably works at least as well as any other detector out there. I was driving in the NYC area on my way home at about 1am last Thursday and my laser signal went off. There were 2 cars in front of me that got lasered and the detector picked up some scatter. I slowed down enough to be within the boundaries of good taste, so another save by the V1. I never leave home without it, and have even wired one onto my motorcycle, including a wireless transmitter that activates an LED in my helmet when it gets a hit!

Sorry, nothing illegal about laser jammers... They are 100% legal my friend! Now when you are talking RADAR jammers, that's a whole other story as they are 100% ILLegal in every state!

Mine has not been hit or miss at all - everytime my V1 laser signal goes off, my laser jammer goes nuts too, so I know its working! (and besides when you are actually speeding past a cop and he does not chase after you, something has to be working!)

Gordon you could do all of us a service here. Just to prove out your theory next time you go through a laser trap go turn around and go back through it say at 90mph and see if the trooper still looks puzzled. That would prove out it's effectiveness. Most troopers give away 10mph over the limit so you need to make sure that you give a realistic test. Good luck and let us know the results.
