From my understanding the cheaper diagnostic tools with SD2 capability are only compatible with the later 360 TCUs. I have a 2000 with a 185301 TCU. I have no communication with my Foxwell 520 which works on an F430 flawlessly (communicates with TCU). I talked with another Fchat member who also has a 2000, but with a 176552 TCU. Apparently his was reprogrammed with 197533 programming (according to a service record) He has full SD2 communication. I was under the impression that the older TCUs cannot be programmed. Could somebody please clarify? I want to update my TCU programming so that I can have SD2 communication, but if I can just have mine reprogrammed instead of having to buy a newer model to be programmed, that would be ideal. My other question is what is the difference between the early and later TCU models? I understand that one can have the PIS manually put in, but how else would that data be entered? Thanks

Chat with Eric on here, he's done a lot of CS TCU reflashing.

As for Foxwell, always do an update first as they are evolving the product all the time. I can see they support at least 2 different tcu versions on their latest updates.

Personally if I had a F1 I wouldn't use stock tcu firmware when the CS one is so much better.

I had the same TCU. This is the 2nd oldest version of the 360 TCU, and PIS is not individually programmable. The later versions of the TCU allow PIS to be set manually. The car sets PIS itself on the earlier versions. Also, this version of the TCU cannot be reflashed as a CS TCU.

Mine drove like a dog. The PIS was over 5 after clutch replacement. The car was very difficult to drive, as I had to rev the engine a LOT to get the clutch to grab from a stand still. I was embarassed to give people a ride, as the car was so difficult to get started.

Recently replaced the TCU with one of Eric's flashed CS TCUs. OMG. Night and day difference. I cannot even describe. Got the new TCU and set up/programmed appropriately (instructions are around here, including how to set PIS). The car drives AMAZINGLY now. Feels like a modern car. The rev matching blips on downshifts in race mode are just icing on the cake!

If you want to enjoy this car to the fullest, you owe it to yourself to give Eric a shout and get one!!!

That answered most of my question. Thank you. I'll get one eventually. I was hoping my current one could be reprogrammed. I find it very peculiar that the other Fchatter I was talking to had his 176552 reprogrammed. Perhaps they just re-used the case.

Perhaps there is confusion with terminology. What exactly is meant by the term 'reprogram'?

If by reprogram, you mean accessing the TCU with an SD2 and being able to read and change certain settings (i.e. NEW CCP), then yes, the TCU can be reprogrammed. I know my cheap pseudo SD2 will not even access the TCU, but a real SD2 certainly can. The PIS is not one of the settings that can be set, though, with these old TCUs.

If by reprogram, we mean reflash, then I only know that these old TCUs cannot be reflashed as a CS TCU. I also don't believe they can be reflashed as a newer standard 360 TCU, but I am not positive about that.

I see how that would be confusing. I'm a little new to these concepts so my terminology is a bit off. By reprogram I mean reflash. While I would certainly love a CS reflash, my main goal is to be able to have a diagnostic tool that can communicate with the TCU. It appears that the cheaper tools only work with newer TCUs. I was hoping to bypass buying a newer TCU by using my current one, but that does not appear likely.
