I guess it would really depend on what you were doing with car. The more you spend for a tire the better it performs (usually). If your car was just sitting in your garage (like some) or not being driven hard (read track use) like others I suspect just about any tire would work. They may not be as quiet as what's on the car now, or they may not offer the same grip as what's on there now but I don't know that I would say they would not be safe..... It looks like you could pick up a set of Kumho's off of Tire Rack for just shy of $600 for a set. If you look at the overview of the tire it looks like it gives up a little in dry performance (compared to OE) but is better in the wet (not that anyone would even dream of driving their car in the rain) and the comfort/noise categories (these would be the most important for me). Thanks, the car doesn't really get driven hard or ever tracked.. just surburban and some freeway driving, but they still need to be up to the Z rated specs. I'll check tirerack.
